It is not farmable. It is limited per character per encounter, per weekly reset.
So if you do Prestige 3x, once on each character, that is the maximum number of attempts that week.

that sucks did Bungie say if catalysts would still be obtainable after beyond light?

The only thing I have seen so far is "Here is a list of catalysts that are going into the DCV and will be unavailable to earn starting in Season 12.", a list that includes Acrius' catalyst.

If we're taking that at face value, Bungie will not be giving people an alternate method to earn them just yet. That's unlike Acrius itself, which will be available in one form despite the location being vaulted.
Or they just might mean 'unable to earn via the current method' and they always intend to turn them into new quests or add them to existing activity loot pools. We can't say for sure.
