Jumping
OK this may sound like a dumb noob question because it is. I know that you press the space bar to jump. But never seem to jump very high or at least high as other people. Is there some timing with the sprint and jump that I'm missing?

Hi there!

Your maximum jump height is tied to your Mobility stat. So, the lower tiered that stat is, the shorter your jump will be.

Also, it depends on your class. With Warlocks, there is a certain trick to get your Warlock jump to be as effective as any other jump.

Depends which class you're playing and which jump you're using. With hunter you can hold space to go a bit higher before you double jump. Generally with the other classes you can quickly double tap space to go straight up in the air or leave a bit more time between the jumps for a more horizontal jump.

Thanks. I am playing a Warlock. I just started and a little confused as to what my character is suppose to be doing. I character was given it's first quest. It appears that I'm to jump up to this place and see a loot box. I see others jumping up there, but I only seem to make half way.

I have tried the double click of the space bar but is doesn't seem to help much. I might have to do with my arthritis and muscle coordination.

Warlock takes some practice. Most people tend to hate it at first and warlock mains will tell you that it's the best jump in the game.

I like burst glide the most, the others feel a bit too slow. Just stand still and quickly double tap space and you should go straight up in the air up to your max height.
The way I like to think of my Warlock jump is more of a moon jump. The further you want to go, the sooner you want to activate your second jump.

Same thing with the Titan's jump from what I've seen from playing all three classes.

Titan jumps a little bit less so, due to it being a lift, rather than a glide.

It does work in some capacity, but there’s a max height. With Warlock, it’s usually a lot more predictable: the sooner you activate the second jump, the higher/farther you can go

Mousewheel for jump is good advice if you're having trouble with quick inputs. I could see that being a pain if your mouse isn't good at tracking how many notches you've scrolled though... 2 vs 3 scrolls could be the difference between gracefully grossing a gap or plummeting into a pit of toxic goo, lol. Worth a try.

I got also icarus dash on pressing mousewheel and the scrolling up just for swapping between the kinetic and energy weapon. In crucible heavy is not so important/prevalent even if I play not that much pvp. Just hit "3" for heavy. Works quite good. With the dash you might unintentionally switch to your other gun but which warlock relies on guns...kidding.

I've always used scroll up for kinetic, scroll down for energy and middle mouse for heavy. Been playing with the exact same controls for so long now that I think switching something would seriously mess me up, lol.

Scroll jumping can be useful for some things but I'm well versed in smashing the space bar from years of Quake. :golden:

Wow, thanks for all your responses. Sounds like a great community. I'll give these a try!!!

I was a little hesitant to post this question, thinking I'd get laughed at. But ya'll seem really mature. It's quite refreshing in this day and age.

how about a jetpack instead of the stupid jump tied to a 'mobility' stat. 3 classes 9 kinds of jumps....it's a cluster. Especially the Warlock's 'floating jump'.

I'll be the first one to admit that I have ruined many a raid runs all because I completely whiffed my jumps because I thought I was on my Hunter when I really was on my Warlock. Ruined a Petra's Run too.

It's a good laugh moment. It happens to all of us!

Have fun out there!

If you're using burst or strafe glide, you want to jump and at the peak of your jump press jump again and hold it for elevation then directional control. If you're using Warlock - Solar - attunement of Sky, you can also press X (twice) for an in-air dash. Just practice with it and you'll get the hang of it.

Warlock is the best jumper. My Warlock character is the only one that could finish Risk/Reward.

It can be done on a hunter without any special gear. There are alternating platforms that you have to look for. There are also shortcuts in certain spots.

Thanks ralphtobyob, that's really good info. I had no idea the weapon color meant anything or that there were 3 jump styles!!!!
