This.
However, there are some Pinnacle sources (Garden of Salvation, Pit of Heresy, certain Nightfall Ordeals, Nightmare Hunts) that you won't have access to as a F2P that will slow the power grind. So you could have hit 1060 this season, but it would take significantly longer.
1000 is the Soft Cap. 1050 is the Hard Cap. 1060 is the Pinnacle Cap.
Different people refer to the different caps as different things these days.
Soft cap / powerful cap / pinnacle cap makes the most sense to me. 1050 isn't the hard cap because you can continue to increase your gear score beyond 1050. 1060 is the hard cap.
just different wording really, I consider 1050 the soft cap because if you don't want to do the pinnacle grind then you can't get higher where as 1000-1050 will happen just by playing the game naturally there for I don't consider it a cap.
Considering the number of people who still ask on here how to get above 1000 I think it's important to mention it's the Soft Cap.
I find it hard to believe that is an issue personally, they will clearly see themselves going up in LL as they play. Saying that though, sure class it as a 'cap' when helping people like that because the 2 other caps will mean nothing to them for the most part anyway. For the larger part of the player base there is mainly just 2 caps though, hence why I went with that at the start but hey, everyone has a different way of explaining, no biggie.
Here's someone from just yesterday:
