Destiny 2
I have a question on how to do the Pinnacle grind

Sorry to waste your time, I am bad at researching and couldn’t find any info past youtube videos that wasn’t clear on this.

So the past few weeks nothing but 1053 heavy weapons have been dropping for me and my other gear is pretty much at 1052 with my kenetic at 1054.

Do pvp and play strikes only drop weapons from the weekly challenge? The number hasn’t really been dropping any higher for me for some reason. Sometimes the challenge reward just gives me a blue too.

Also, do I have to use an upgrade module to get all my gear even, or is it based on what I have in my inventory? I have some decent stat season pass armor that’s much better than the 50ish stat drops that I usually see 😊

From my limited knowledge, I assumed that the average number for gear power that is displayed on your character's upper right (excluding artifact bonus) counts for the pinnacle rewards.
There are 3 tiers.
Light Cap - 1000 Light Level
Hard Cap - 1050 Light Level
Pinnacle Cap - 1060 Light Level

You can do any activity to get to 1000; You can do any daily or weekly powerful to get to 1050, and lastly to get to 1060 base Light Level, you need to do pinnacles. Right now you are at the 1050-1060 range so you need to do pinnacles.

Strike, Crucible and Gambit only give a +1 to your base Light Level. Dungeons, raids, Nightmare Hunts, and Nightfall 100k give +2 to your base Light Level.

Right now you are probably around 1053-ish base Light Level? So you need to do any of the pinnacles to slowly level up.

Do you know whether or not what I wrote holds?

I started to receive better pinnacle gear only when I infused gear into my worn armor.
Having gear of higher power available was not enough for pinnacles to drop at that level +1.
It had to be worn.

Example:

I can reach 1055 power but I wear armor of 1048.
Then the pinnacle drop was 1049.

I can reach 1055 power and I wear 1055.
Then the pinnacle drop was 1056.

No, wearing armor or not doesn't do anything for drops. As someone who wore only their 1050 armor while pinnacle climbing to 1055 drops before using any upgrade modules on it, I can confirm wearing has no effect. All that needs to happen is that equipment you can equip exists on your account. Stuff you have in the bank, or even other characters, count: I main Hunter, and only bothered to do anything on my other characters once I got to at least 1050 on my hunter. Both my other classes got to 1030-1040 in five minutes from just pulling armor from the season pass, because the 1050+ weapons on my hunter were pulling their light up a bunch.

This is exactly what I read before and expected to be the case.
But for some reason it did not work as expected for me.

Also, are pinnacle drops only +1 from your lowest gear's power?

You equip your best gear and add the differences from your higest gear points to your lower to equalize the gear score without artifact. If it hits round number when you equalize the score from every pice of gear than that will unlock that power level and you dont need to wear it to get + 2 drops of that score. It always drops + 2 from pinnacles from your latest unlocked power level. Thou some activities has bad translation and instead of pinnacles you get powerfull ( 2 ) which gives only +1 ( as to my knowladge gambit and crucible has translated pinnacle but you get powerful 2 ) To unlock another +1 power level you need again equalize score from all your gear pices to have a round number to unlock next power level. So you farm and equalize all scores put it on if you have a round number and unlock next power level. After that you can unequip to the moment that you will get gear with the score that again will allow you move 1 power level.

I would do the cheap pinnacles (3xstrike/4xPvP/3xGambitPrime) to get bd bounty and use those till 1055 then do real pinnacles like Poh/100k/NF/Proph/ till 1060.

Do as many pinnacles in a week as you can. The fastest way to get to 1060 is to do all of them and hope RNG favors you.

That actually took a few times to read, its like reading a semantic book from my class lol. Hmm so keep it even then. Im still faced with the problem of the weekly challenges sometimes not even rewarding anything though. thanks though, i got some adding to do :)
