Can someone explain to me how to unlock Umbral Engrams?

I went to Io, I got the Artifact, but the Drifter is mute. I read I'm supposed to go do a Contact public event on Io, but it's never there. I've capped these Umbrals and I really just want to unlock them so I can play some more strikes and whatnot.

It's beyond me why I can't unlock them from the get go.

Edit: Aparently f2p get the quest too. I do have the Artifact, Drifter just does nothing.

When I logged in it put me back on the Io quest but I had already completed that.

You do not need the season pass for decrypting Umbral Engrams. What you need to do is complete the "In the Face of Darkness" quest line.

The the left of the Drifter are two machines. The right-most one turns umbral engrams into gear. Continue the Face of Darkness quest until it unlocks at the Tower. Is free to play.

What I'm saying is that I don't have the quest.

Ah even i couldnt find the Contact event, and thats because the icon for this even is very different from the other public events. The shape is like a rhombus or kite, and the colour of the icon is exactly the same as the surrounding map background, so just look closely and hover your mouse over the map on Io or Titan and youll find it.

It should be on Titan this week. Also believe you need to do a sort of "intro" quest before you can do the events.
