Unable to Join and play in a fireteam

My friends and I are trying to do raids together, however one of them cannot join or play ina fireteam at all. Their banner is black (blank) and they have no power level or player icon.

we cannot join his fireteam and are unable to look at his character or stats. He can solo q into any activity but when he joins our fireteam his ship nor character load. If we try to start an activity with him, our fireteam gets forcibly disbanded with a message saying bungie account error across everyone's screen.

How to fix this problem? Google has been coming up empty with only similar problems but no resolution.

Maybe see if a new character could join your group he creates.
