with new light comeing, do i need forsaken DLC to unlock the remaining skill tree brenches??

Good question, most likely it is yes. I think it is better to wait to know or you can ask the community manager directly in social media.
IIRC currently, for the first subclass, we start it after completing the initial Forsaken story mission. the other two of three forsaken subclass we need to have access to Forsaken activity. They said New Light can go to all patrol zone, but I am not sure you can access the activity with New Light.

You do. As a New Light player you can visit all areas pre-Forsaken but you can't do certain activities or the story on all of the planets. While you'll be able to participate in the Well that gets you some of the new skill tree's, you won't actually get them as a reward so it'll require Forsaken to unlock them.

plus the ace of spades is apart of the DLC so that is another reason to get the DLC, and if u like lore get it. i recommend to just buy it on blizzard now its only 30$ for Y1 and Y2 and Annual pass for Y2. and play for a 5 weeks ahead of shadowkeep, your choice. only reason i played this game and got addicted was the november giveaway of the base game and then boom bought all the DLCs in 2 months.

I've linked my account then decided to buy the forsaken DLC from Bnet as i'd like to catch up on the story after the base game before i go into Shadowkeep.....just need to re download the game again, fingers crossed i dont have to uninstall and re download again in order to play on steam in October.
