IIRC on the Destiny 2 steam page Linux is not listed in the supported OS's. If anything it's your fault for not reading properly before downloading.
That's a good suggestion. I'll look into it. I'm sure I can find enough space on my hard drive :)
In my case this isn't what happened... I use to have windows installed on my system but after yet another windows update burned me and corrupted the OS I completely wiped ALL my machines of windows and just have Linux installed. The only reason why I had windows was to play games but I've been able to get 98%+ of my game library to run either via Wine or Proton or a Windows VM. So to claim that "If anything it's your fault for not reading properly before downloading" is just rude and completely not helping the real issue.
There really isn't a good reason for a company to have done all that they've done to limit Linux users from playing the game.
From the store page:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows® 7 / Windows® 8.1 / Windows® 10 64-bit (latest Service Pack)
Where did you get the idea that Linux was supported?
It would be nice if it was, but it looks like Linux is not supported.
It would be nice if there were a lot fewer cheaters in game too.
I would not hold my breath on either of those.
However, a lot of Destiny users are already constantly complaining about Bungie having their heads in the clouds so I would guess that LInux support (if listed) was rather low on that to-do-list of theirs.
I would suggest you to enable crossplay and use the Goodles Stadia Service on your linux machines. As far as I am concerned they do still offer a free trial for a couple of weeks (#coronaperk). So if it does not work out and/or suit you there will be little loss.
Then you haven't checked out a whole lot of niche games.
There's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of games that don't run on Linux. Especially outside of Steam. Especially on the MMORPG side of games.
also...
^this.
There is a difference between "it's running" and "it's supported".
This doesn't mean that would have linux support. Most of the servers on the world run on linux
