Umbral engram bug?

So I started playing Destiny 2 again. (Played Shadowkeep when it was released havent touched it since) and started to level my titan from 750. Finished Shadowkeep and now Im at 970ish and did the special public event on Io to start unlocking umbrals from the Drifter. Now the problem is I already have 10 umbral engrams in my inventory and the mission reward from the Drifter is an umbral engram meaning I cant finish the quest to start unlocking them. What the hell am I supposed to do? Is there some way to delete engrams I dont know about?

Load another character, quit out of the Io mission, go to the Drifter and pick up the engram as an abandoned quest. Redeem it, then your main character will be able to decode their engrams.

If I don't have a second character, how much time do I have to waste creating one and getting to the point where I can do this?

No idea, sorry. You'll have to do the New Light intro mission at the very least.

Do I have to abandon the quest on my main character first? because just quitting out of the mission and visiting the drifter didnt work
