Giant eyeball on Io?

I found what appears to be a giant eyeball in Sanctum of Bones on Io after opening the cache and heading back to the main chamber. Looked up to the right and what is a giant white-ish green eyeball looking thing is tracking my movement. Couldn't find anything in here or on Google. Can't inspect it with Ghost. Can't damage it (immune).

Anyone else seen this thing?

Followup - found a post on reddit where someone found one somewhere else on Io in Lost Oasis.

Yeah, I saw one of those, but can't remember where exactly.
It was either on the starting mission or near the Invasion Site event.

There's a bunch of them all over. I think they're only on the planets that will be vaulted in September. Are they directly related to the Darkness or something from Savathun, I'm not sure. But they seem to be involved in whatever the reason is that will stop us visiting those planets in future.

I presume a weapon will come out that can destroy them, like Wish-Ender vs Corrupted Eggs.
