Are you certain it bricked the install on a different drive without accessing it? And are you certain it wasn't a program in the background?

the game and windows are on different drives and for background apps it's windows 10 you never know how many apps work in the background as for apps what i saw runnging was geforce experience, xbox app, wallpaper engine(it stops when a game is running) , steam,Mega app,Bitdefender,Onedrive
Edit: and i play alot of games and this only happened with D2

tURN ALL THAT EXTRA CRAP OFF. Why would you run wallpaper engine while you are playing, or xbone app.....its not the game, its all that other crap you are running.

What Kepano said. Xbox app along with wallpaper engine and especially Mega app can stress temporary files that lead to a corruption. Had it happen myself but not bad enough to fully ruin the install The game itself doesn't touch any windows files and this is the first time it was reported as far as I know.
