Well, strictly speaking gtx 680 has higher memory bandwidth of 192 GB/s, and 1050 ti mini has 112.1 GB/s. It also has more cores and these things may actually matter in some games.
I have found myself in the same situation years ago when swapped gt 9800 for 550 ti.
Though 1050 ti is better for newer titles since it supports dx 12 and vulkan, it may very well loose to 680 in situations when memory amount is not an issue and game runs on older api.
