Season 8: First Watch quest - questions
This has been a frustrating quest for me. Although the rewards seem to be terribly lame (shaders), this is easily the longest and most painful quest I played. The worst of it is that it can only be done on the Strike Playlist where everyone rushes making it hard to get the types of kills you need unless you go off the reservation and start farming in the surrounding environment (any work done in Nightfalls or world Strikes does not seem to count). The other big problem is that every time I think I am about to finish it... another goal pops up. What in the world?!!! Why not give all of the goals from the beginning, so that people can decide whether to grind it or not with adequate information to make the decision?

Questions:

1) Are there any worthwhile rewards from this quest? Or is it just a sick joke the developers are playing on us, baiting us with a quest that grows and grows as you play it.

2) Is there a list anywhere with all of the steps of this quest? I googled but I could not find it.

3) Can the already started quest be completed after the end of the season, or is all of the work invested in it wasted once the new season starts?

4) We are only a few days away from the end of the season and the "Arc Abilities" quest step just popped up. Do I have enough time to complete this - and any yet unknown subsequent steps - completed by Tuesday?

You get some shaders. If you like them, that's great. Otherwise it's not all that special. I personally enjoy adding to my shader collection, but I'll only go out of my way for really special shaders.
Start the quest at the beginning of the season. I've completed it without even thinking about. There will probably be a different quest next season, and this one will be gone.
I don't think it's worth grinding. There's better things to do with your time. You can get things like wendigo, and edgewise, or even Erianna's progress through strike playlists, so my advice is to clump together as many quests for the playlists as possible to make them worth your time.

1) rewards are seasonal exclusive shaders and an emblem right? I mean if you care about the colour or having missables then it could be meaningful.

2) I can't find anything either.
3) Persuit is unavailable after season 8 so yes, wasted effort.
4) can easily get arc abilities with skullfort titan.

So in other words, the quest aborts half-way at the end of the season and you pretty much get shaders, so no big loss if unfinished.

Yeah, I know I could do the arc stuff in the time left, but there is no indication of whether there are more steps after that... so I hesitate, since it requires doing it in the mindnumbing and idiotic 750 Strike Playlist.

I'm on the arc stuff right now, I'll get it done tonight and I'll tell you if there is another step.

Ya. Don't worry about it. I can't remember all the steps for the quest. I play three 750 strikes/week, once with each character for the weekly vanguard bounties and challenge rewards. It's not so bad if you pace it out over a few months. But it's not worth grinding.

I don't have Skullfort yet and I don't really play Titan, but the arc step was pretty easy for me with Crown of Tempests and top tree Stormcaller. Don't try to do the whole quest in playlist strikes with random players. Going in with friends into the Corrupted strike and doing Blind Well, or even going in solo into the 820 Nightfalls with arc singe on your card and mass murdering mobs or running public events/lost sectors is way more efficient.

But the quest says you can only do it in 750 Strike Playlists, that is what is rotten about the quest. I've tried in other places and it didn't make progress. Not even in Nightfalls, which is nuts.

I'm 99% sure you're making a mistake, cause I barely played playlist strikes at all this season, and definitely not while I was farming the quest. Melee ability/grenade/super kills in any type of strike should count, including Nightfalls and Ordeals. I loaded up Lake of Shadows when it was on the Nightfall rotation and went to town in public events, lost sectors, even the opening area of the strike which has a lot of adds, and wiped after clearing the area to respawn them all, rinse, repeat.

You can log into braytech.org or DIM to view the exact numerical value of how much you've completed and not the percentage the game shows you, I'm confident you'll see it going up with ability kills in any kind of strike. The only quest I know of that REQUIRES running playlist strikes is the Wendigo pinnacle quest, even the Edgewise quest counts progress from Nightfalls and regular strikes.

First Watch has three steps, one step for each of the three rewards. Finish step 1 to get the first shader, step 2 for the second, step 3 for the Emblem. The arc step is the 3rd and final step. The Crucible and Gambit quests worked the same way.

I've been progressing on it almost exclusively from Ordeals, with a bit of solo Nightfall to finish off the kill requirement.

The points score is out of 1,800,000 total (you start step 3 with this at past 50% already), so 18,000 points will give 1%. A 920 Ordeal run within 15 mins should give about 5%.
The kills are out of 900 so you need 9 kills to get 1%

EckyThump just saved me the hassle OP, I don't need to bother grinding that pursuit anymore, thanks Ecky.

Ty, I don't really care about Shaders or Emblems. If it wasn't that I had other quests that went in parallel I think I would not have bothered. I am not going to bother with that 3rd step.

Yep, very much thank you. You saved us a lot of pointless trouble.

Skullfort Titan or Crownlock are the best ways to get Arc kills quick.
