Why dudes play as women?
I mean choosing female characters? This game is mostly FPS and with how armors designed there's not much to look at during 3rd p. sequences. Just curious.

Course this game popuation largest part are :
- teenagers (don`t know why some people consider Cayde 6 or any other speeches in game funny)
- people that have a lots of free time for grind course they don`t have any female around (and those are time consuming)

And both of these groups are mostly male and need any substitute of boobs and curvy hips.

Or because male character models look like bulky little dwarves.

I would question you on how you seem to insinuate that women take up social time, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut you're right...

Luckily not all men are vain but I won't bash on those who wear lipstick.
My problem is the size of the cuirass, they're massive and literally makes them barrel chested, you could fit a whole hunter male or female character model inside of it, its ridiculous looking tbh, plus the prodigal cuirass looks sleek and slim on the female model. Only male character I have is a Hunter because I dont like hunters, Warlocks are acceptable too, its just Titan's male character model is so goofy looking with armour.
Ripped alpha males should wear big armor to emphasis their masculinity, everyone should understand that.

Why do some people rely on Snipers to be good at PVP? Because they're soi bois who can't go bold and fight face-to-face.. yes, you have a high killcount and skillcap and whatever, we've heard it all before and you're so boring.. you know who you people are, and you don't impress us a bit. :D
^ so true! Even though I'm Warlock I still go face-to-face as hard as I can, not to come off as one of dem soi-bois.

That'd imply I care deeply about "immershun" in the first place. Besides, good writing can make me identify with a female lead, and bad writing can make me completely dissociate from a male lead. Good story/characterization matters an awful lot more for immersion than what the character has between their digital legs.

Destiny is not a story-driven game though, so I'm not really immersed into thinking I AM this guardian. I like looking at a girl character, and I like the way Warlock and Hunter armor look on the female frame.

I second this. I want to add, that immersion doesn't have to mean that you have to play a character that's you. Are you a scientist and your name is Gordon Freeman and you fighting against alien? Most people would answer this with no.

So why is the gender more important than everything else.

I prefer female characters often, because they are less bulky.

In Destiny the males have the same height as females, which makes them look like bulky squares. Especially the hunters and titans look weird. The male hunters look like they have very short legs and the titans look like a square sized meatbag.

So If I'd be able to create a male that is at least 190cm of height or bigger and less bulky. More like the Gordon Freeman type of body, then I'd create a male. But most games only have cartoonish males. And IF I play a male than I want a male that is taller than females, just because I think small males look weird. Sorry. And in Destiny the males are of same size as females and this looks weird.

Beside that I have nothing against females. They look nice, they sound nice, and also if they do awesome things it feels even more awesome, because they are less bulky and it also is less expected for a female to be tough. Which comes to last argument: Tough females are something new and interesting. Tough males are standard.

And especially in Destiny the armor looks most of the time way better on females than males.

TL;DR in Destiny males are SMALL and BULKY meatbugs and cliche, especially because the females are of the same SIZE as the males, but with way more realistic proportions. This even adds to the picture that males in Destiny look like bulky dwarves. And I'd prefer to play a tall man with NORMAL proportions like Gordon Freeman for example instead of a dwarf with shoulders as big like the sunsystem.

edit: also males moaning too much. I think males should not moan. This is not manly. They should be more silent and not moan about every little scratch. And the customization options on males are most of the time very very limited. Long hairs and beards? Tall and athletic without cartoonish proportions? Most of the time not possible. Because of that, female, since they get portrayed mostly good. And females appear way more tough in most games nowadays because of all this. my opinion.

edit2: and another thing. You also play robots or animals or skeletons. Wait. Is that a male skeleton or a female skeleton? You can't really see it, because its a skeleton. But I need to know. If I don't know I can't be sure if I can play it. See. All this discussion is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. You play a character for hundreds of different reasons. And playing a female character because SEXY is just ONE reason of hundreds and doesn't have to be always the primary reason or sometimes its no reason at all.
Since we can create the character, some people like to associate themselves with that character. In games with preset one, like HL you mentioned, it's not the case, of course.

Characters in Destiny 2 have different heights. Awoken are tallest, f.e., but proportions aren't exactly right. They are all taller than average human is today. Also males are slightly taller and wider than female counterparts. IRL disproportion is usually much bigger, that's true, but in-game females are kinda combat built athletes, plus size differences shouldn't be too pronounced for gameplay reasons. And FYI, in Destiny 2 human male IS about 190cm in height. You can find some posts on this.

Characters are "tough" in Destiny because they are literally undead superheroes who can get revived endlessly. With current narration, not many Guardians prefer the dark side, so that forces characters to do "awesome things".

Males moan in Destiny in very manly way. I assure you, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

And human female skeleton is usually pretty different for male one, if you can't spot the difference in some game, that means modelling of these skeletons was done on pretty low effort level. And I don't see any other reason to play the character rather than sex.

I'm a little 3ft 2" virgin man IRL, the size of my Titan makes me feel big and stronk.
As others have also mentioned, it also allows room for our pastels and colouring books.

@Sundr

I know its very subjective. But just saying, a male player that chooses a female character can't be out of a different reason than that he must be a virgin teenager, like some people seem to insinuate, is just shortened. That may be true for some. But even if thats true for some players, what's really wrong with it? Tomb Raider was a big success back then when Lara was sexualised and the new Lara Croft of today which is way less sexualised, is, still a success. How comes that? Because there are many different reasons. And gender isn't that imporant for most players, like some people think it is. Like I stated. Me, for example, if I could create a male character the way I want, then I'd play one. And what's wrong with playing a female character as a male? It's just a game. The females are well designed, they are tough and look less cheesy than the males in Destiny. Of course that's only my subjective opinion.

I just think female characters in today's games are mostly portrayed tough without being cheesy, while males often portrayed like cheesy meatbags. So Half-Life is a valid example. Gordon Freeman is a good example how to design a male protagonist being tough without being a 0815 meatbatg. I wish we had more male protagonist that are tough like Gordon Freeman without being cliché. For example Cayde. The male Exo hunter. I can not but laugh about him. He is so cheesy, it hurts. That's not how I think a male character should be.

And that's totally okay. If you wanna play a male titan with shoulders like the solar system, that's totally fine. It's not my cup of tea, but if you like it, then it's correct choice.

Thanks, you're such an accepting person, I also like serial killing and punching people, but you've made me accept that because I like it.

I think Bruce Lee would be proud of you.

Just imagine if titans were looking like Danny De Vito or Samo Hung.
Ahh and I think most of teenagers and fat lonely players wouldn`t change their characters apearance to look exactly like themselves.
It is all about escapism. Hell... I would give a lot to be builded as my titan.

Smaller hitboxes babyyyy

jk, there are so few female protagonists in AAA games that I jump at being able to choose a girl avatar. Besides, I'm a straight guy, I'd rather look at a girl than a dude in the (not insignificant) time I spend at the tower.

Wrong, the female and male characters in destiny have the same hitboxes. It was done purposely so not to give an advantage.
Chris 29. feb. 2020 kl. 6.32
I do it for the smaller hitbox. But im not even sure if the different model makes a difference on the hitbox in d2 - still...just in case

Nah. There is no difference, because it would be an unfair advantage in PVP.
Illusive Soul 29. feb. 2020 kl. 9.11
i think the small hit box thing is just a joke.
