Understanding the Wardcliff Coil
I am positive that I am using the Wardcliff Coil wrong and need advice.

I recently started working on its catalyst and I must confess that for me it has been a horribly unpleasant weapon, at least in PvE. I can only pickup enough heavy ammo for 3 rounds. Each round can kill a mass of mobs, but those don't happen very often. Also, it seems to be quite ineffective against bosses.

Is it just a PvP heavy slot weapon? I suspect no, because you almost never see it in PvP.

So, I suspect that either the weapon is a total weapon or I am missing some detail of vital importance. Any hints?

I used Wardcliff in IB for the infamous 10 RL kills quest. Spray and pray but mind the range, thats Wardcliff.

If you want to quickly up the cata to max, i recommend escalation protocol or altar of sorrow.
Completed mine today, used it to grind out Pyroclastic Flow bounties.
I had heavy ammo reserves on, double heavy ammo pickup and the season Heavy Ammo Refill on finishers at the cost of half super.
I did EDZ Cabal lost sector (don't remember it's name) as well as public events, mainly Cabal and Fallen.
I was firing it from medium to close range, about ten meters and less, it took me a couple of hours.

Any grinds of this sort can also be done on Leviathan. Fire it up, run into the castellum area and enjoy endless mobs that predictably respawn in bunches. Every once and a while use primary to get kills (with rocket launcher/heavy ammo finder, and all those reserves the other person mentioned).

It does pretty good boss damage when arc singe is on, but it's nowhere near as good as it was when auto-reloading was a thing.

It can be pretty obnoxious in the crucible if you manage to catch a group of enemies with it. I've picked it up a few quad kills with it.

Overall, not the best weapon but not the worst either.

Sorrow's Harbour. I finished the catalyst in less than one hour. I also used it for a quest step of Lumina. For me, it's very "pleasant", it's simply fire-and-forget. It also works the lol-way in PVP.

Slap heavy ammo mods and/or RL ammo finder mods and jump into the Whisper quest. Get to the green room and jump down to where the shadow thrall spawn. You can get a huge chunk of it done within 1-2 runs if not finish it.

So it is really a special-purpose weapon, mainly for PvP. And grinding the catalysts in Escalation makes it easy.

Thanks, that is what I wanted to know.

After I have done the Catalyst (mainly through escalation protocol), it now resides safely in my vault. Yay.

I use Wardcliff for RL kill bounties, 2-4 shots and its done.

Just load up on RL / heavy reserve increase and ammo drop mods and visit tribute hall to get full ammo before going directly to mars glacial drift.

Start lvl 1 escalation protocol over and over and destroy baby hives until you run out of ammo.

Go back to tribute hall to refill ammo to max and then back to mars.

Doing it this way means no real travel time to get to your farm spot but can get messed up by other people actually trying to finish escalation protocol.
