It comes to a point where it's no fun at all anymore, Let alone be taken seriously. Maybe comp suffers a bit less from this, but also there, very apparent nonsense going on.
And now the whole community has to donate fractaline for the return of the lighthouse, which in it's current state and by design is very susceptible to cheating. Our team got host booted over 20 times in D1 and it happened a few times to me in D2 year 1. So really, I've become very indifferent to everything PvP and also Gambit, It's one big circus in my experience and Bungie cannot or will not fix or improve it.
I understand what you are trying to say, but the assuming on your part is also still what it is. Assuming.
Assuming that I can't tell the difference between connectivity issues and things like aimbots, god modes, lag switching, ddossing, host booting. etc etc.
I'm probably not always right of course, but I think you are underestimating the current level of cheating going on. The fact this clan forces you to download cheats is the best example. money is being earned with cheats you can buy on websites.
P2P is the basis of the connection issues you mention, but at the same time the basis of many apparent other problems. In combination with the realtively high aim assist the game already has, the many 1 hit ko's the game already has, the slightest advantage gives great benefits.
Also, being free to play just makes it a ton easier for cheaters to just create new accounts over and over again.
P2P means that IP addresses are visible to everyone pretty much. Apart from the fact that random people should not have access to that, it makes host booting possible and this happened and still happens and makes any attempt at a 'real' competitive pvp impossible, unless it's actively being prevented or countered. I have no idea if it's even possible. Ypu will probably never have 100% guarantee, but right now pvp is a circus.
The P2P design probably makes it harder to control things, but making it free to play is the worst thing Bungie ever did. I aslo read somewhere that Bungie refused to use Steam's anti cheat, but I don't have a source for that.
Well, the main reason I brought up the server type and how communication works when you implement P2P at all is due to the fact that a lot of people complain that someone is cheating when in reality they just keep connecting to people with bad net to begin with, and the fact that P2P doesn't belong in a PVP based game due to the communication issues that P2P has. But, D2 is using a different type of server, sorta, than D1. In D1 you had pure P2P where Bungie decided to use P2P/Client based hybrid servers to help with some of the communication issues the first game suffered from. However, the problem with still sticking to P2P at all is the fact that the communication problem is still there and you're still indeed exposing IP addresses which leads to cheating. Yes, making it F2P makes the cheating more rampant. One thing they tend to lie about is the cost of dedicated servers and saying we don't want them when in reality plenty of F2P games have them, and some of them rent the servers off Amazon, like id Quake Champions. I've been playing the franchise since year 2 of D1, and I have run into cheaters myself. In year 3 of trials I was playing on my xbox one, and kept SC a paid carry streamer on the 2 guys he was trying to carry. Out of nowhere he kicks me to orbit which was a known thing, and still is a thing even in Destiny 2. My friend at least made him rage quit to the point he just left. I have seen my share of cheating in D2 as well as I've played trials of the nine, gambit, comp, and so on. Not saying I'm a god or anything, but before they made fable easy I was at least good enough to get recluse and lunas on my own. When I got to heroic 3 it was kinda obvious that people were cheating. But, part of the reason I brought up the whole P2P and people having bad net in general is because some people don't factor that in, and they just assume anyone is cheating because of that or even because they get outplayed. Like, on PS4 I would really not enjoy a 1v1 against my friend Sai. I would never land a hit on him. Multi flawless in both versions of trials, and he easily hit legend without cheating when it was difficult. I'm not going to beat someone like that. I did run into a gambit cheater last night too, and I still reported him because I'm pretty sure there is no armor that lets you carry excessive amounts of motes. Now, I could be wrong because I never was big on gambit to begin with. But, this guy was carrying anywhere from 20 to 30 motes in gambit prime.
