Graphics tweaks
Anyone have a way to get this game to look good? It feels like it should, but when you look look, whatever AA methods it uses is pretty bad, especially looking at the ship after you login, very jagged. I've even tried a few different options in the Nvidia Profile Inspector with not much luck...

it only bugs me when I focus on tweaking, pun not intended ha. The jaggedness and shimmering isn't anything a programmer couldn't fix, and 3 years is actually not a long time when it comes to hardware/software, the curve is doing an inverse past several years.

wait, I came back to reply to someone and I see most of the posts are gone...

Yep Destiny doesn't give much choice in AA settings and the aliasing is pretty bad.
Your best option would be to increase the Render Resolution though depending on your config, you might not be happy with the performance it'll cost you.

The AA was the first thing I had a gripe with when I started the game on release in 2017, even in 1440p it pops out, the only way to fix it is to super sample AFAIK.

Which options did u choose to super sample? Thought I tried that but maybe I did it wrong...

And yeah Render Resolution doesn't help much really, nor does DSR for that matter..not at 1440 anyways

safety tip, dont try to mod the game look beter,or you get banned.

The graphics look fine to me, but what I would really like is a way to reduce/eliminate particle effects. Some of them are so bright that they sometime cause real physical pain after a while.

It got better with a higher resolution, so playing at 4k on a 1440p monitor but the performance hit isnt worth it, I actually play at medium settings, shadows low, particle effects low etc to keep a competitive FPS, I always say that FPS matters more than aesthetics in any first person games.

The way the graphics are presented are great, if that makes sense. But the way the went about it doesn't seem as satisfying as it should. I was looking up this to try and understand a bit more of what they used for the engine:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deferred_shading

Most of it's beyond me since I don't do any programming or graphics design, but some of the things in the Disadvantages section caught my eye ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deferred_shading#Disadvantages ), especially:

"Another serious disadvantage is the difficulty with using multiple materials. It's possible to use many different materials, but it requires more data to be stored in the G-buffer, which is already quite large and takes up a large amount of the memory bandwidth.[6]"

Now I don't know if that's been fixed in recent DirectX versions, but that might have something to do with why a lot of recent [f2p/early access] games I've tried on Steam that use the Unreal 4 Engine chop horribly. That or the games are just not optimized correctly. Or the engine doesn't like Nvidia cards ;P

All in all it's a great game, I just don't understand where this High Quality AA they speak of ( http://advances.realtimerendering.com/s2013/Tatarchuk-Destiny-SIGGRAPH2013.pdf ) is at.

It does get a bit better but it doesn't make sense to me to have to do that when other games achieve more with less, like Doom. I know, different engines, different preferences/expectations, but to the person that said it looks good for being 3 years old, yeah it looks decent, but it feels like it can be a whole lot better. And I'm not sure why Vulkan isn't becoming more integrated in games, Doom for me runs much better using Vulkan than OpenGL. And yeah fps/frametime matters over graphics quality for most first person shooter games, but me personally, I still like the game to look as good as it runs. Games like Counterstrike GO, Black Squad, etc are only marginally fun cause I don't feel as immersed in the games like with Doom, R6 Siege, The Division, Deus Ex, Agony, etc.

Most definitely the rendering, set it to 150% or 200%
BananaJane Feb 27, 2020 @ 5:49pm
the game looks good no matter what settings you use, even on 100% minimum settings the game is gorgeous

Here's a little video i just made that includes a few sections where the shimmering/jaggedness is obvious as the camera pans left and right, and some gameplay on the settings I use. Again...I'm not sure if it's the way they implemented the antialiasing or the anisotropic filtering or if it's part of the deferred rendering method, but hot damn, something failed to do it's job...

use native resolution of whatever is your screen and play with supersampling method or adaptve multi

anti aliasmode: enhance
texture quality: standard or try high which has a direct effect

do not use stretching and low res stretched to fill the screen has to be theworst idea and no benefit.
