I'm up to 77%ish now. Either set up a fireteam that won't %*&^( you over or just join pub teams and be careful.
Even turning in every section no matter if you have 1 or 15 motes if you need to.
It might feel evil not playing to win so much, but most teams I get in pub gambit don't give a heck what anyone else wants -- they'll run right in front of you to grab motes ahead of you even if you're at 10+ and they have none. So I said %*&^ it and just turn in whatever I manage to get each section instead of trying to get 15 every turn in.
After that you will get a feel for when a invader will come.
Yeah, I know more or less when an invader is coming, but not much I can do about it besides run to a corner of the map and hope they are dumb enough to run out in the open.
Also, banking early with smaller offerings will get you back and you can check the heavy ammo more often. Lastly, don't discount mods like heavy ammo finder, machine gun ammo finder, etc. Don't bother invading. It doesn't help 'you'. Let someone else do it.
If you bank your motes every section, you'll likely never have more than 4-7 motes on you at any time.
Invaders that know what they're doing enough to kill you no matter what will usually go after the guy with 10+ before you with your 0-7.
If all else fails, take a trust / targeting rocket launcher with you and try to kill them as they poke their head into the spawn hallway you're hiding in.
Or just run around anything that blocks them watching radar to make sure they don't go the opposite direction.
I swear I've heard so many invaders scream profanities when I just played ring-around-the-tree / pillar / rock making them waste their invasion time chasing me instead of getting kills.
The idea is to be as cowardly as possible, don't try to gather tons of motes, you'll have to play super aggressively to beat out pug runners and you risk getting killed and losing motes to the stuff they ignore not caring if they lose motes. Don't hold 10+ motes for any length of time -- get them banked. If you hear 2 blocker get dropped at the same time and you're carrying many motes, don't go to the bank -- run to spawn and set up to pound an invader that sticks his head in there looking for you. Make yourself less attractive as a target and more annoying to chase down than the rest of your team.
Overall, the goal isn't to bank massive amounts of motes, it's to avoid losing motes. The double drain for lost motes just hurts too much to risk carrying many. Even only banking 5 per game and losing 0 is better than pushing and banking 30 and losing 20 to cost yourself 40 and lose 5 overall.
