Insanely long load/travel times
Played this game now for 2 years probably close to 1000 (mostly prior to switching to Steam) if not more hours and I'm getting insane load time/travel times. I have a relatively high end system I can run this game no problem basically max settings at 240 FPS which seems to be the games cap. I understand specs are not really relative to loading time but I'm not playing this game on a pentium 2 and 512mb's of ram.

I have a 8 core 16 thread CPU, 16GB's of ram and I have the game installed on a 500GB M.2 NVME drive. I'm getting anywhere from 3-4 mins load times multiple times per day at random, I've spent 5 mins before simply traveling to the tower from space this is excessive load times for any drive let alone NVME and I'm seriously not trying to complain but it's non stop I just spent 5 mins trying to load into the tower half the time it's faster to close the game thru command prompt and relaunch it than waiting for the transition to a new location.

This has been happening non stop now and it's the only game I play that does this too me. These times are crazy if I was on a hard disk drive but I'm using a 3000mbps NVME drive this drive is 6 times faster than a SSD and I'm still waiting 5 mins straight just in the traveling screen. It's non stop tho and it's seriously starting to get old I mean I can fast travel to a location and just the loading animation prior traveling takes a min easy.

I've verified the files, I've reinstalled the game I mean seriously in the time it takes me to travel every 1 in 10 times I could lose the game and relaunch it and be in orbit 2-3 times before I can go from orbit to the tower. It's excessive it doesn't stop and I've experienced several times where I just seem to get stuck in the traveling animation and never go to the location at all just stuck in the animation as if the game was frozen...

The problem is not you. Those long travel times happen when the servers are trying to find a box for you to play on.

Clearly,

- When the destination is one of Bungie's servers the problem happens when the servers are all full. In other words... they don't have enough servers.

- When the destination is a match hosted via P2P, the problem is that matchmaker is thinking and thinking and not finding an adequate team. For some types of matches this is silly. For others - like survival - I'd be happy to wait longer if I ended up with a decently assembled team, but sadly we always end up with a mix of "top 5% players" and "the rest", almost never getting a clear and balanced match.

If your problem is from going from orbit to the tower. I have that observation. There maybe full population in the tower before you can land and too many players are entering the same tower at the same time, so you have to wait for the crowd to disappear to make up some room for you or wait for someone to leave before you can enter.

peer 2 peer , no matter how beefy your pc/how fast your internetz, if you get connected with someone with a pentium, you have to wait for them to load too :)

example : you ever load to tower so dang long then when you load you get loaded with dozens of others on top of eachother, then yeah that mean someone on that dozens use a potato to play and that affect others.

You know, this is a fair argument I never considered it really I'm still use to the game being pay to play and I've never experienced these issues than. I quit for a season once they switched over to Steam so really this is my first time (this season) that I've experienced it so I never really put the servers and free to play together but honestly it makes a lot of sense lol.

It's happened to me so often and so frequently I've been trying to find a solution believing it was on my end or just the games filed/a past update. I guess to some degree I feel happy for finally having an answer as to why it's been happening as it has mostly been at random. As I mentioned I tried trouble shooting it on my end and it being so random made it rather hard to figure out what was causing it as it was just so random and over populated servers/queing for servers makes perfect sense.

5 minutes sounds a bit exaggerated, if it isnt then I suggest loading into the tower with a friend and then having your friend to load into the tower separately to see if it's an isolated issue.

Respectfully it is no exaggeration as I said " I've experienced several times where I just seem to get stuck in the traveling animation and never go to the location at all just stuck in the animation as if the game was frozen... "

The game just assigned you to an instance before you can enter. Everyone would be assigned an instance the same as you. So there maybe some congestion/mistake in the process when everyone was assigned the same instance in a short span of time when there's a lot of requests. And the game wouldn't change the instance for you during the course. So that's what happened.

On the occasion I'll get a stupidly long loading screen which ends with everyone loading into the tower all at once but 5 minutes each time seems strange.

I get the long load times too, despite having D2 on an NVME drive. It's definitely gotten slightly worse since the last update.

I also have this problem. I had read on another Steam thread a while back that Destiny 2 requires an extremely strong connection, nearly four times as strong as what's required for other games. I don't know how true this is but I've discovered that Campaign loads faster than the other stuff and slower with a fireteam or a server-based world. And I've discovered the game runs faster the further away I am from other players. Just my theory.

Not every time is 5 mins it's typically three but as I mentioned I have had several period where it will not load period it's just stuck in the traveling animation as if it was frozen it will do nothing it will go no where I've left my desk and came back to it 10-15 mins later and it was still in the loading animation. I'm certain if I left it a hour or overnight when this happens it will still not load it never does in situations like this it's indefinite.

Times like this I typically wait 5 mins and than shut the program down and relaunch it I don't think it will ever send me to the location when this happens far less often maybe once a week but I has happened several times I only know it's happening once I hit like 5 mins I could go make dinner and it would still be loading as if the game was frozen.

I have fiber 1000mpbs upload and download and it happens so I doubt it's connection short of just a random user mini hopping every 20-30 ft.

In the last TWAB they said long load times to the tower is an issue with the latest patch.

Blame that peer 2 peer system and people trying to load in, with stone age computers and/or bad internet.
