Since armor keep their mod slots, i think they do plan to bring back those mods in the future..
I got Forsaken during the Steam winter sale and I’ve found Reverie Dawn armor with slots that came with active riven’s curse mods. Those are listed as Year 2 mods in Destiny Item Manager so not the same thing as season mods.
They are a part of this current expansion.
Just like some other mods from leviathan, last wish etc, these are raids mods and rivens curse "mods" are for dreaming city activities, just to mention a few..
Anyway, what i think when someone says "season mods", i do assume they mean the artifact mods, which will get removed at end of season..
However, what i dont know is if the obelisk mods or " charged with light" mods will stay but i think they will.
They wouldn’t be obtainable after the season when the obelisks go away but if the slots remain intact next season then in theory the mods could remain active.
The artifact definitely goes away as I had the season 8 artifact and those all disappeared at the start of season 9 along with the artifact.
Any mod that goes in the last slot (the slot with the bird icon) is considered a "seasonal" mod and will go away as well as any mods associated with the Osirus artifact. It should be obvious that this is Bungie's way of making sure new content related to the artifact is both relevant and necessary in the eyes of players. The need to find gear to recreate builds similar to the previous season or builds for current season will keep people playing and decrease the number of people "sitting in the AH complaining about content and gear" because they were able to get previous builds that new/late comers don't have access to. The number of people complaining about getting new gear will be far less than those that enjoy playing the game and consider farming gear to upgrade to current season part of the game.
