Random Freezing
Hi,

Destiny 2 will periodically freeze during play, anywhere from 10 minutes into play to two hours, without any apparent reason. At first I thought it had to do with area loading, but it's now happened in the Crucible. There is often a period where the game appears to be working, but the "loading" symbol appears, spins, and then eventually freezes. Sometimes all the audio will cut out except for certain sounds (like my own gunshots) for a minute before the crash.

Most of the time I am able to close Destiny 2 with the task manager, but in every case Steam reports Destiny 2 as running until I perform a restart.

I have attempted to verify the integrity of my steam files, and also tried a full reinstall of the game. (Of note: Steam is installed on a different hard drive than Destiny 2. Not sure if that's important or not.)

Running an AMD Vega 64. Everything worked fine before moving to Steam.

Please let me know how to proceed.

Thanks!

Sounds like it may not be at your end, but you could be connecting with a p2p host who has horrid internet.

I run on a 5700xt and sometimes loading is painfully slow even on an ssd.

Yes the P2P connections have been extra hokey as of late.

You think it could be P2P connection issue, even with the crashing? It sometimes takes Windows down with it.

I don't have problems with my operating system. Just with the servers every once in a while. My PC doesn't have stability problems.

My CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K

Not sure how best to monitor my temperatures... I'll look into it and get back to you. I'm not doing any overclocking that didn't come standard, but maybe something up with my fan?

Update: This is happening in more games than Destiny 2. My Vega 64 was at 80°C when it crashed during tests, which seemed normal. CPU and RAM usage was okay. Anyone have advice for what to try next? I ran a CHKDSK without issue.

Format pc and reinstall stuff is most logical i guess

I have two SSDs in my computer, and Destiny was running on the other one. (Not the boot drive.) I moved Destiny over to the C drive, and now everything is working fine. I assume it's an issue with the HD, but I'm not able to find anything wrong with it in diagnostics. Any advice on how to proceed?

I was having freezing at random spots, menus, crucible, pve, "are you there?" screen. Nothing made any sense. Only game to have a problem...

Finally figured it out so I thought I would mention it here in case anyone else is having a problem.

BitDefender (or whatever antivirus software you're running)....

Apparently its messing with the EXE or the memory the game is using while playing which breaks the game on occasion.

Ever since I added the destiny folder and destiny executables to the exemption list for the Antivirus and the Advanced Threat Detection system the problem has disappeared!
