Exotic Engram broken?

I was under the understanding that if you don't already own all of the exotic gear the Exotic Engram was supposed to give you something you don't have.

I am missing a bunch of exotic stuff and it just gave me a 4th(!!!) One Eyed Mask!

I have been getting those things everywhere and had not had a chance get rid of the dupes. Something is very wrong. Worse, with the recent nerfs they are utterly worthless.

EDIT: Sorry... I should have mentioned ***Xur*** exotic engram.

Only fated exotic engram give you stuff you dont have yet

Fated engrams are also specific to the class opening it. So if you are missing hunter exotics and open it with your titan, you won't get hunter exotics.

Armor is class specific, so you need to open them on that particular class to recieve them.

Anything else is either a quest/raid exotic, or it's from the most recent season and Xur's lootpool never includes the most recent season.

@BlueBomber all exotic engrams were suppose to have been changed to "fated" 2-3 updates ago. As Animeye stated they are based on class but, if you are referring to Xur previewing the Engram shows the exotics you already have and you should only be Titan armor on your Titan and not any pieces you already from Xur or the season pass. If you are open a ticket.

It also doesn't give you quest or raid exotics so that could be one of your issues as well.

1. One eye mask is still very good without the healing its the best tracking in the game so its not worthless at all
2. Are you sure any exotics you don't have are random drops or rewards because if they are rewards you wont get them from exotic engrams.

Yeah, the healing and overshield werent the issue with oem, it has always been the tracking that was the issue. If it just gave you hp and a weak overshield but didnt give you 8 seconds of wallhacks it wouldnt be as bad as it currently is. I am impressed bungie has managed to miss the point so consistently with OEM nerfs given that they have at least 1 Unbroken on their staff.

Least you can still get exotics OP, all that's left for me is quest exotics which will soon be over, then I'll join the content drought veterans again.

I middle that exuberant feeling when getting a new exotic.

Apologies. I meant to say Xur exotic engram.

Also, this one was claimed with my Titan.

The following are the things I "don't have yet" according to Collections/Exotic:

- Weapons Kinetic: Thorn
- Weapons Energy: Polaris Lance, Tarrabah
- Weapons Power: Worldline Zero, Sleeper Simulant, Anarchy, Xenophage

- Armor Titan: I have them all.
- Armor Hunter and Warlock: I am missing a LOT, not worth listing.

So, there seem to be some weapons I could have received instead of that mask. Or can someone confirm that NONE of those weapons will drop from Xur's exotic engram?

In the meantime it seems that I have to start claiming the Exotic Engram with one of my other characters... just to be safe.

All of those weapons you listed are either a quest or a raid exotic and as such dont drop from fated engrams.

None of those weapons drop from Xur 😂 start using the fated on other classes to get their armour now.

Yep, for sure if you want the exotics for that class. However claiming on a class where you have all exotics from the engram will give you a randomly rolled piece of exotic armour which can be pretty well rolled.

im not going to keep reading, but seems not alot of ppl are pointing out something pretty obvious. there are not that many exotics that are NOT tied to quests. look at ur collections under exotic and look at the ones that were grey. most pro say quest or challenge or raid.

Excellent point.

Perhaps the real issue (not why I made this thread, but definitely what underlies the problem) is that perhaps Bungie needs to rethink the way Xur works. Maybe when all "non-quest" exotics are owned it should give non-quest exotics for the other characters. And when those are exhausted give curated rolls of legendaries?
