Xur and world drops the only source of non duplicate exotics?

i found out nightfall and leviathan only drop a select few exotics (year 1 items only).
Excluding season ranks, are the latest exotics just not meant to be obtainable for months at a time?

All exotic engrams now give you something you don't already have. When you have every random drop weapon + armor for the class you are playing you get random armor.

depends how much you play...there's a bad luck system in place, so after so many kills of any enemy, one will just drop. Although I wish the exotic drop rate was higher similar to when Destiny 2 first came out.

i'd get 2 or 3 a week from various activities back then. Mostly from Heroic public events. But back then, that activity had better drops

then why is almost every drop i get a duplicate? im no where near finished collections

Exotic armor you get always is for the class you are currently playing as. And you can't get weapons like Tarrabah or Whisper from random engrams.

erm the drop exotic engram is not the same as the exotic engrams that xur/pass yields.

since back in the days you had to get them and take to a cryptarch to get a exotic (you could get repeated exotics), the new exotic engrams are the ones that give non-repeated until you have everything.

and one thing, monte carlo is a undying pass exotic, not a expansion exotic. even so all characters can get all exotics unless they are locked behind quests/raids, for instance Lord of Wolves is listed to me as exotic drops yet i cannot purchase it from xur since i do not own forsaken/shadowkeep.
