Is there any reason not to use the machinegun
It kills anything in one hit and ammo is the easiest to get to drop for it and you don't even need to aim with it, you just point it vaguely where the enemies are and shoot
What's supposed to be the downside compared to every other weapon that's way more work to use

Weak damage against bosses compared to other heavy weapons like spike grenade launchers or sniper rifles, they are used mostly to clear adds quickly.

I've never seen any weapon do a lot of damage to any boss, even the weakest bosses take forever

What are you saying, those enemies are like 95% of all the enemies you spend your time fighting in the game
It's not worth putting the machinegun away and losing all your ammo just to fight a boss at the end of a level

well, unless you got a quest, doing pvp alot or bounty, i would not suggest using a machine gun :P

I never use a machine gun unless i get a bounty for it...
My top choice for heavy dmg is izanagi, whisper of the worm, prospector or another grenade launcher with spike nades.

however, izanagi or snipers doesnt do as much dmg as it it back then, that video is rather old....

But non the less, they still do fairly high dmg if used right..

But you'll run out of ammo using the sniper rifle, the max bullet you can hold is like, no more than 16 enemies you can kill with one with full ammo
And I've never seen anyone with that gun before, is that what I should get to fight bosses

Old video but proves my point, I still see challenging, bosses and champions HP get deleted, the only reason it's not used nearly as much anymore is because it's a primary sniper which needs to be used for the seasonal mods, exotics are only viable in heavy, Erianas vow and the new side arm next week are the only two exotics with seasonal value other than damage which is pathetic.

You don't really find "more ammo" for machineguns, if you look at the damage you can do per magazine with a machinegun and the damage you do per mag with a grenade launcher, it will probably end up being very similar. And there usually are just two if not only one boss in a Strike so I think the "kill only 16 enemies" argument is quite silly.

The purpose of the sniper or rocket launcher is to be used against the few thiccc targets, like champions or bosses. They will take care of most champions very quickly and that is where weapons like sniper rifles really shine. Machineguns are good for clearing ads because they can sustain their (compared to Autorifles) high damage output much longer, due to their larger ammo pool but it will do less damage than a sniper rifle in the same timeframe (which the area is where Izanagi really shines with its perk).

The way I do it in PvE is probably really goofy: I usually use rocket or grenade launchers with auto-loading holster so that I can get them out, dump the mag into the boss, switch back to my autorifle and keep shooting until my rocket launcher is reloaded again.

Now in PvP it is an entirely different story for me, in Gambit machineguns will easily wipe out an entire team in one mag. Doing that with a rocket launcher is going to be difficult.

You can't use machineguns in pvp though, the ammo's so rare in the crucible that it might as well not even let you use power weapons
