Question about WireShark on the PC (but not active)
I have a rather simple question, I'm a Destiny 2 player since a while and for projects that have nothing to do with the game, even games in general, I have to install on my computer the analysis software "WireShark". This program will of course, in case some people ask for it, only be active during my game sessions, it will only be active when I work on the optimization of my codes related to data transmissions. The only thing is that this program will be present on the disk and declared in the system. I also use other programs for my projects like "Process Monitor", "Hacker Explorer" etc, and these programs are not a problem, as long as they are not active, and that I know and therefore I am not worried.

It's at the moment of installation that I remembered that WireShark installs a connection bridge that remains present even when the software doesn't work and a series of drivers that are active I think continuously, that's what made me afraid that this would be a problem.
And that's why I want to know more before installing it and especially before playing if it's there.

I have for example also another program known for cheating which is Cheat Engine but that also never runs in game sessions that are online, it's only used on solo games because I create tables to manipulate its games but it's not at all related to the case of Destiny 2 and does not cause any problem because it remains off and its presence alone does not seem to have any problem, never seen any case of ban just because it will be on the disk but not active.

Bungie and the other publishers know what they are doing or often warn for this particular case because it is a program used by many people and programmers that also analyzes something other than games with it.

Unfortunately I haven't found any information from Bungie on the subject, and the few posts that talk about this program are posts from people who have been banned and imply that it's because of the use of this program or its presence, and it sounds like people who either used it in connivance with the cause or are trying to find a legit explanation for something they did illegally on the side.
So I don't trust anything that's written in these posts.

Do people here have any information about this, or advice?
Of course I could be told to have two computers, one for the game and one for projects that involve programs like this, but I can't afford to do that at the moment.

Resume question:
  • Is it allowed to have this program installed (because of the connection bridge or whatever) as long as it's not active?

Thanks for all the answers, advice, etc.

PS: There's no question of launching a debate on whether or not Bungie is right to protect his game.

I don't know the answer regarding the game but I have a solution I might suggest although it would require completely reinstalling your PC, but you sound technically competent so this should not be a big deal:

- Partition your disk or use 2 disks.
- Use virtualization so that you can have 2 completely independent instances of Windows.
- Reserve one of the instances for just your games, with very little else installed and make sure it cannot see your other disk.

Problem solved. And for performance you can even deactivate the instance that you are not using.

@ReActif
As long as the different software are not running and targeting the process it should be fine,i ve been playing with a few installed since begining never had problem with.

I had a problem with other game who state directly you have to delete x application before launching, in some case you can avoid that by renaming the executable or if they scan for signature, well virtualization is probably the way to go.

Also if you do some reverse analysis from time to time on potential threat it s probably better anyway.

Thanks for all answers.
I will try to use another partition (this is a good solution for me, to secure my work too)
