Lens feeds through so it allows a snowball burst of dmg..... coldheart is ok v one boss but u run out of ammo and it falls off....
Coldhart, prometheus lens - these two are your damage dealing trace rifles, and good in many situations
Wavesplitter - havent used it personally but its tamp up mechanic seems interesting
For Boss Damage, Wavesplitter if you have orbs, otherwise Coldheart
For Support, Divinity.
But at the end of the day the only one worth bringing into end game content is Divinity. The others just too weak compared to other exotic weapons.
The damage ramp up reminds me of the laser weapons from Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Namely the laser beam variants as the ones made by Maliwan had the same mechanic to them. The longer you keep it trained on an enemy, the more damage it does.
Prometheus is fun because it rarely needs to be reloaded, every kill tops up the ammo from your reserve and it takes about 1 ammo to kill a rank and file baddie which sends 3 or 4 ammo back into the weapon from reserve. Useful? Kinda, but trace rifles are quick to reload when needed and unless you are holding down the fire button on a boss they don't eat through ammo as fast as you'd think. So the ammo top up eventually just becomes a neat novelty.
Wavesplitter on the other hand turns into the Ghostbusters proton pack whenever you walk over an orb of light making it a no-brainer if you pair it with a masterworked primary weapon or you're in a fireteam with people who sh*t out orbs all over the place like well fed guinea pigs.
Prometheus lens has AOE ontop of its laser, its overall damage output stats off quite high and does not require continued damage to be effective, it is excellent for crowd control but once again it becomes a question of "is it better than X" and sadly it is not, it must be active for quite a while for its bubble to reach full size so a well rolled smg could clean up more in that time.
Divinity is the first useful one, it has obscene buffs, not only being the strongest buff but its application is fast and it has buckets of range and it also makes a huge crit spot on the target, synergising with the exotic whisper of the worm, it sees most frequent use in gambit, gambit prime and raids. in the crucible its effect is quite powerful against supers as it lowers their damage output and its judgement perk will oneshot them after a short delay, it is most effective against things like bottom tree striker in this regard as it stops them oneshotting with their melee and kills them quickly however for neutral game it is somewhat underwhelming.
Then there is wavesplitter, a strange one, it needs orbs of light in PvE to perform well and without a catalyst is is quite impractical to use at the moment, if orbs are available it will out-perform lens in most scenarios but it is still not a valuable dps tool. It has no luck variance in crucible and performs the best out of all of the trace rifles in pvp.
