Radeon AMD Software and GPU
There is a discussion about NVIDIA drivers for Destiny 2 on this forum but not one dedicated to Radeon AMD software and AMD GPU's.

Currently I use a Radeon R9 280X OC (3G) and AMD software 19.5.2.

Has anyone upgraded (?) to the latest 19.9.x and what are your results and any perceivable differences after the "upgrade?"

My settings for Destiny 2 are :

Anti-aliasing mode: enhance application settings

Anti-aliasing method: supersampling

Morphological filtering: Off

Anisotropic Filtering mode: use application settings ( in game 16x)

Texture Filtering Quality: high

Surface Format optimisation: on

Wait for Vertical Refresh: off unless application specifies

OpenGL Buffering: off

Shader cache: AMD optimised

Tessellation mode: AMD optimised

Radeon Freesync: off

Launch with AMD Eyefinity: off

Display scaling: full panel

Frame Rate Target Control: disabled

Video is stable with high fidelity.
Frame rate around 40fps except in highly populated areas such as tower and titan

Considering all the complaints i have read about poor performance, my video qaulity and settings are stable.
Performance issues I have noticed directly relate to server connection quality.

Post your (helpful) observations. No trolling.

Hardware issues can arise from all sorts of other issues. Poor performance is generally attributed to a bug somewhere.

Since I have none of these bugs, I'll say that a R5 1600 at 3775mhz, 8gb of RAM at 2666mhz, and a GTX 1060 3gb with a +181/85 Core/Mem offset(respectively) does phenomenally.

Generally speaking, issues will be driver related, OS related, or due to absolutely atrocious cooling capabilities.

Also, Freesync on an Nvidia card is awesome. Glad to have invested in a Freesync monitor.

Rig:

Ryzen 5 1600 @4.1gbz
16gb 3200 RAM
Radeon Rx 5700xt Sappphire Pulse

With my setup I can easily do 1440p at 90+ fps.

I am on the latest driver, 19.10.x I forget exact number at time of writing.

I'm on the latest driver which is 19.10.2. Now I'm new to AMD GPUs and I have an Rx 480 that I bought 3 days ago. I had some teething issues moving from an Nvidia GPU to an AMD GPU because I had no knowledge or experience.

For me I had to add +30% to my Power Limit in Wattman. This fixed my problems and now I have about 35% higher framerate than my old GPU which was a 1050 Ti. (I turned V sync off when I was testing this)

Driver 19.10.2 is the only driver I have used as I'm a new AMD user. But overall I would say that I'm happy with my increased overall performance. Also Wattman allows a lot more control over a GPU than Afterburner did.

Everything is set to high except for textures which is set to highest. I play at 900p 60Hz and use V sync. The vast majority of the time, my framerate is a rock solid 60 FPS with no hiccups. The only time I have a drop in framerate is when I go to the Tower. But I think this is a common occurrence based on what I have been reading.

Herbert the Workhorse:

I5 2400 @ 3.1GHz

16 GB 1333 MHz RAM in dual channel

Rx 480 4GB (OCed: 1340MHz Clock 2000MHz Memory) I tried for stock Rx 580 8 GB settings and got them.

Video Settings Destiny 2: Everything set to high except for textures which is set to highest.
Rock solid 60 FPS @ 900p 60 Hz (Only drops occur in the Tower).

Driver 19.10.2

Hmm. If I were you, I'd overclock this(unless it already is 2666mhz and the 1333mhz readout is before double-data rate calculation) and get a bit higher frame rate(or at least, more stable.)

good comment.
I hope more people will write their experiences and if issues com up that we can attempt to solve them.

i don't undestand wattman but i am using an older GPU.
other settings in Radeon settgs are all default.

In Destiny all are high or highest except environment detail distance and foliage deail distance are medium.
i usee SMAA anti-aliasing but there seems to be not much difference it is is set to off and no noticeable frame drop with or without AA.

Render i set to 125 which does not negatively affect anything.

I would if I could. Sandy Bridge stock settings for DDR3 RAM is 1333MHz.

The downfall of my aging PC is that the motherboard is an Acer Veriton that comes from an office PC. The motherboard doesn't allow me to adjust RAM timings. It's a very barebones ghetto motherboard meant for people that don't mess with their PCs.

If it was an aftermarket motherboard I could attempt to overclock the RAM to 1600 or 1866 MHz. I'm just surprised that my machine from 2011 can still play newer games. But I do know that I have to upgrade to a DDR4 platform soon. I'm just cheap lol. Not gonna lie.

Ryzen 5 1600+ and a cheapo B350/B450 will go a very, very long way.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yMvDgw 160 USD
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3cwNhy 225 USD with the memory

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I'm definitely going with an AMD CPU this time due to value.

Wattman is fairly similar to MSI Afterburner if you have used that before for overclocks. The main difference is that Wattman allows for a lot more control and has individual power states which Afterburner doesn't. But overclocking the core and the memory is the same idea, just slightly different graphs.

I don't remember off the top of my head which settings have the biggest impact on FPS. But I do know that usually settings that deal with shadows or shadow quality can sometimes be intensive.

how does power control affect the GPU?

More power = able to attain higher clocks

any other comments from AMD software users?
Cthulhu_1988 Nov 25, 2019 @ 6:06pm
Also more power makes your GPU more stable especially when you hit the boost clocks. Under Global Settings and Global Graphics I had to turn off Power Efficiency and then I added +30% to the power limit.

does that affect internal temperatures?

More power and higher clocks will result in higher temperatures, yes.

The card should be stable without needing the extra power, provided that you're keeping the clocks at stock settings. If it is unstable, there might be a problem with the card.
