I am a warlock main and like my bows too, dunno about jump cancel, never really tried tbh.
As for specific weapons being better in specific classes, that is mostly BS. That might only apply to hunters who want to wield swords because of their insane agility or due to specific armour perks that could favour a specific weapon type. Titans have an exotic chestplate that benefits the use of auto rifles or something like that, it is no big deal though as there are much better exotics out there to be used.
In the end it is all down to playstyle really, i play mostly as titan as it is the one class i can play the most aggressive role out of the 3. Warlock is usually versatile but i highly despise his jump and looks in general. The hunter is usually my secondary option to take a break from the titan, i play more carefully and tactical with the hunter.
If hunters are good at mixing bow shoting with jumping perhaps warlock has other traits/perks which help with archery and which hunter has not.
Think, analyze and in worst case put bow into locke start as hunter and pick the same bow from the locker.
It is very good idea to try out 2nd character or even have 3 and keep switching between them.
Bows aren't that bad. They might fall short in group endgame activities because the meta is usually shotty/sniper/pulse, but bows are pretty damn good for endgame activities when played solo, such as heroic missions and strikes. The advantage of bows is similiar to fusions, you can "charge", deal some damage and hide, repeat this process for best usage. Of course, there is the problem with splash damage from enemies, but this isn't a thing with all the enemies, it is mostly large units that do this stuff and nades.
The problem with bows is the lack of variety in the perks and type of bows. Bungie should consider adding new types of bows to the game, similiar to the other weapon types, you have slow, med and fast ARs for example. We could use shortbows, longbows and crossbows. Shortbows being the quick hitting bows with mediocre range, longbows being the slower hitting bows with longer range and crossbow being the "hit like a truck" option that is slower to get ready/reload.
