Shadowkeep is Separate from Forsaken, Warmind, Curse of Osiris and Red War (base campaign )

Forsaken will be on steam sometime on launch or before
The annual pass will have a reduced price and it'll be maybe a separate purchase as bungie has stated that the purchase model has been a compounding issue for them
Annual pass will not be available separate from forsaken unless you only own forsaken. Forsaken + Annual pass will be one $40 dlc pack, shadowkeep is one $35 dlc, and next year there will be 3 extra $5-10 dlcs

To purchase everything it will cost you $100

$40 for forsaken complete collection
$60 for shadowkeep digital deluxe which includes all the seasonal dlcs next year
This is really helpful! Thanks for clearing this up. Two more questions:

1. Will progressing through Forsaken content be necessary in order to play Shadowkeep? I might have understood it wrong, but I remember them saying they want to make jumping into D2 more accessible, so if I have the base game (free promotion during last year's Blizzcon), will it be enough to jump into Shadowkeep and then, maybe, buy Forsaken once it's on sale?
2. Has there been any word on the pricing of the Forsaken Season Pass once it hits Steam? I see it's currently discounted from $100 on Battle.net.
The discount from $100 is because it also includes CoO and Warmind + base game, which are f2p anyway

Forsaken launched at $40, and the annual pass was $35

Now the bundle for both is $40 total.

Forsaken will not be required whatsoever for shadowkeep, and upon starting a new character you will be at lvl 50 750 power, which is the current post-annual pass max.

Ah, I see. So with Shadowkeep and its Season pass, you're essentially good to go for the of the remainder of the season/year.

But wouldn't that make buying Forsaken's pass after Shadowkeep goes live a worse proposition? I imagine the story would be a reason to buy it, but if new characters start off already levelled, will there be enough incentive to have people doing old content/raids? Or, to put it another way, how big is the risk of buying Forsaken and running into a wasteland when it comes to activities?

I'm aware this might be going into hypothetical territory, but I'm just trying to get a clear picture, since I'm not all that familiar with Destiny 2's structure and there are a few other games on my radar for autumn/winter.

We dont really know that much about this. But I hope that is not true since starting at the max level and max power would kind of ruin the whole game in my opinion, but no they havent really said how its all going to work

You're starting at forsaken's max, not shadowkeep's max.

Shadowkeep will be level 60 and either 800 or 900 power max.

It's just like forsaken. Pre-forsaken max was 400 power, the softcap for forsaken was 560.

The reason to buy and play forsaken content in this place is for the gear since it'll still be mostly exclusive to it. Depends how they're handling the "Select annual pass activities are free"

As of the most recent director's cut we know max light in Shadowkeep will be higher than 950 (as 950 was stated as the highest you could get without raiding, iron banner, and the yet unnamed third pinnacle activity, as well as discounting the seasonal artifact bonuses). My guess is max light will be 1000.

As for a reason to buy Forsaken, it's just good content. Since all of year 2 will probably be bundled together once it comes to Steam, that's 3 very good raids, a solid campaign, a whole bunch of side activities with a lot of gear and exotics to chase. I'm not sure what they will be doing with the third tree added to each subclass, but my guess is that will probably become part of new light. Even now a fair bit of the year 1 content isn't too hard to find people for, so I expect year 2 raids and activities will still have people running them well into year 3, especially because they will drop year 3 versions of their gear, so people who like particular year 2 sets will have reason to keep running that content in hopes of getting the perfect rolls on said gear.
