Redownload?
Will I have to re-download the game on October 1st on steam? Or will my already installed blizzard version of destiny 2 be fine?

You need to redownload the game from Steam. The game will be significantly altered from the Battle.net version currently available, and is not compatible. Additionally, the battle.net version will cease to function once the 24-hour maintenance starts on September 30th at 10 am Pacific time.

Well it's leaving the Bnet launcher and becoming available on the Steam launcher. So it stands to reason that you will have to redownload.

But if you have the space, it's possible that once the game is released to download, that you might save some time and bandwidth by just copying the files to the new location and letting steam detect them and skip downloading those. But that's not guaranteed.
On the bright side, we have pre-load :v
Which means we have about 2-7 days to download the game before the it release.

And like the guy above said, the relocate/ Steam detect is an option but it not always work :v

Oh..well this will be wonderful then. I'd just hate to spend the whole day just to re download it when it releases but since I can pre download it then that's not an issue. Thanks for the responses everyone

Battlenet does have pre-loading but it has to be a certain size same as steam, pre-loading 105gb is oof
ValkyrieWings Aug 8, 2019 @ 2:11am
Doing that maybe different due to the steam integration compared to battlenets

Copy paste your Destiny 2 folder from Battlenet folder to SteamApps ... Launch Steam and just verify... Cool huh

That would only work with games you already installed with steam and transfer them to another PC. Pathing is gonna be different too.

Its gonna be a whole new download. Just let your PC on overnight. Thats what i do

This along with how gamertags will work seem to be the #1 questions right now, but nobody can really answer these, only bungie knows for now how it will work.

As long they some same assets it possibly works after add/modify .acf config, except they change the file structure. I will try it before download all the things.

Do you have confirmation about the preload?
Never read it anywhere.

If he starts installing Destiny 2 on Steam, then pauses, quits steam, pastes Battle.net's game into Steam and verifies it could potentially trick Steam to think the game has already downloaded.

I've tried it with For Honor from the Ubi launcher (was free on there during E3) Then a bit later it was free on Steam and i'd rather use Steams overlay than the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Ubi one. Didn't work

if you don't want anything new, play on battle.net
I believe that battle.net will not be hosting D2 on their servers at all once the switch to Steam is complete. Im currently playing on Bnet, and ps4. But as of Oct 1st, I dont believe you will be able to access D2 on Bnet.

Do you need Destiny 2 already downloaded before you transfer to Steam? From what I can tell you do need to have it downloaded. I made the mistake of transferring from BN to Steam before downloading and now I'm stuck unable to play until Oct 1.
