Armour: Keep stuff you like that has stats where you want it.
[EDIT] I should also add that you will want to keep max level blue gear for infusion. Purple gear is worth more as legendary shards than it is for infusion.
The whole point is that most of us newer players have no idea what that is.
For weapons: You'll want to hang on to a few that have good combinations of perks.
Perks that increase damage like rampage, Or improved magazine size or faster reload. Improving acuracy is good as well.
For example, if you get a submachine gun with rampage, flared magazine well and dynamic sway reduction, hang on to it, even if you don't use an SMG right now...
Right now, I'd advice you to try out all kinds of weapons you find. This way you can figure out for yourself what perks work best for you, then hang on to weapons that have that combination of perks.
Look at the perks. Are they good?
If yes, keep it.
If no, shard it.
For PVE you generally want a reload perk and damage perk. Feeding frenzy, outlaw or rapid hit paired with rampage, swashbuckler, kill clip or multikill clip.
For PVP things are a bit more complex. You might want a reload perk and a damage perk, or you might choose things like rangefinder, quickdraw or snapshot sights. Reload perks and damage perks are nice while they're active, but neutral-game perks will benefit you a lot more often.
Once you have some good weapons and you're a bit more comfortable with which barrel options etc. are good you can start to worry about the other perks.
Then run some strikes / vex offensives / haunted forests (= more or less brainless activities with lots of ads) and start testing each weapon by myself.
That's how I usually needle out the things, usually being able to discard one out of the 3 weapons.
That's a slow process so I only do it from time to time and when I really cant decide what to shard.
Also as they said, any weapon I dont use, which doesnt have random perks, is sharded, as I can print it again from collections, if needed.
Also something I do is accumulate more than one copy of some legendary weapons, even if im not very interested on them, and just keep the one I feel has best perks
It comes down to learning what every perk does, and applying your own experience with similar weapons to make a decision.
Light.gg is a good resource for both learning about traits and seeing which traits are available for tge gun in question.
Yes because looking at the right-hand side of the screen where the stats are is too hard. Need 3rd party software for that.
The in-game bars aren't accurate... But thanks for your sarcastic, ill-informed response.
They are accurate enough for the purposes of the game. You're not gonna stand still when actually playing the game, so an inaccuracy of 1 pixel won't matter at all.
Who decides what is and is not "accurate enough for the purposes of the game"? When selecting perks, if one gives +5 to a stat and another gives +10, I'd rather take the +10.
