Why are shotguns so bad?
I dont understand why other people say shotguns are amazing, the hitreg on these guns is terrible and if your target moves even a foot your shot auto misses or does crap damage even at close range.

Because Crucible people cried about being killed at long ranges, so they nerfed them into a melee weapon.

That completely defeats the purpose of a shotgun, they're supposed to be high burst damage weapons at close range, they shouldnt be 1 tapping at melee range only.

Depends on the shotguns you use, max range shotguns with perks like opening shot, or slideshot can kill at a decent distance if aimed well, slug shotguns can kill even farther away if you hit the headshot.
to quote some youtuber: "shotguns are inconsistent"
basically, you want as much range as you can ie Rifled barrel/Full Choke(for more a consistent spread), Accurized Rounds, Range MW. Other perks, namely Slideshot, are also really nice for pushing the range out even further. Just don't expect to kill from 15+ meters, you'll wanna try to engage at around 6-10 meters, unless you're using a Rapid Fire shotgun, like Badlander, Ikelos, or the new Moon Shotgun. Lightweights are in a similar boat, they don't have the ohko range on Precision, or Aggressive frames, but they do have an easier time with follow up shots if you either miss, or don't get the kill. Precision, and Aggressives are the one hit kill machines, longest range, most consistent pellet spread(precisons), and highest damage(aggressives).

Then whats the best shotgun that actually has mid range OHKO capability on bodyshot?

yep, unfortunately everyone still complained about it back in the day. they used to be useful but not any more.

Yeah these things are hella inconsistent but I'm mad because they're also very fun when it works. But they can shut down supers and Titans coming from round the corner. I still think they're better than sidearms because they have an actual niche

best ohko range pellet shotguns: Mindbender's Ambition, Imperial Decree, Dust Rock Blues, Retold Tale, Prophet of Doom. There's also slug shotguns; Gunnora's Axe, Good Bone Structure, Blasphemer, and the exotic Chaperone. They won't one shot body without a damage perk.

What's worse is they apparently do next to no damage outside of a 10 meter/yard range. Even IRL shotguns have crazy spread and awful ballistics outside of CQB but the balance of these weapons in PvE is absolute rubbish.

Real life and a virtual world are 2 different things tho.

yeah I don't get why people ALWAYS bring up realism as an argument on how a mechanic should be designed. It only really makes sense in games like Arma, but Destiny?

I've honestly gotte used to the short range by now, what doesn't sit right with me is how slug round shotguns barely have any longer range than their buckshot(or laser) counterparts

Arma indeed is one of the only games out there, where real life logic applies in a way.

My gunnorah's axe has like 3 times the range of a badlander.
