Dismantle to obtain shader?

This really confuses me, it says that to obtain these shaders you must dismanttle the item that have this shader applied to it. How do I actually get the shader though? Because in order to apply these shaders I must you know... have them?

It will drop into your inventory. Shaders are in the bottom section of your inventory. Bring up the character screen, hit D and then hit S twice.
Once you have unlocked a shader for the first time you can buy additional copies from your collections tab. They cost basically nothing.

Some legendary items that have unique shader you will have a chance to retrieve the shader along some other components when dismantling something.

Many items come with a shader applied already. Black Armory weapons typically come with the 'New Age Black Armory' shader for example. Just owning the item does not unlock the shader automatically, you have to dismantle the item and hope the shader gets given to you as an inventory item, which will also unlock it in your collections.
