What happens to character progress after migration?
Something the official FAQ doesn't touch upon is what happens to any character progress I make (via battle.net) AFTER linking/migrating my account to Steam.

It's implied that this migration is a "one-time transfer", which suggests that the moment I hit the confirm button, it's taking a snapshot of my battle.net account which will then be restored on Steam on October 1st.

So what happens to any progress I make with a character (or if I create a new character) AFTER I confirm the migration? Let's say I have a level 320 Titan when I initiate the migration process, but then level him up to 400 by October 1st. What happens when I fire up Steam on October 1st, do I have a level 320 Titan or a level 400 Titan?

Likewise, if I create a new Warlock after I confirm the migration and get her up to level 120, what happens on October 1st? Do I have a level 120 Warlock or do I lose that character?

After you sync up your steam, it keeps updating the information untill the data is moved.

I tested this myself by making a new character, and checked the sync on bungie.net, and the new character popped up under transfer details.

Gets transferred over on October 1, all your progress is saved against your bungie account and moves to steam with shadowkeep release

keep in mind what you’ve done is just link your bnet account and steam account, nothing would transfer till October 1
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Good, that's what I was hoping/assume would happen, but the wording has been ambiguous enough to give me pause for concern. Thanks!

Today i wanted to ask you the same thing about the progress of the game, after confirming the transfer, if they were transferred even after having already made the migration to Steam so thanks also from me.

Yes, you just have to wait for the game to come on Steam and you will be ready to play on the new platform.

I think we can install the game directly using the battlenet key or maybe it will appear in our library automatically, of this i'm not sure.

The impression I got is that Bungie has all our characters saved on their end, and they're all tagged with a specific Battle.net account so the system knows which characters to serve up when a Battle.net account logs in. Linking your Steam account just lets the system know which characters to tag so that when that Steam account logs in, it'll know which characters to fetch.
I don't think they're copy/pasting our characters from one system into another at specific point in time, I think they're just adding labels so that when we all start logging in through Steam, the system knows what to do.

Steam Linking is just connecting Steam OAuth login to Bungie.net right now. Nothing are migrated yet.

No offence but it's funny that you pressed on "I agree" and don't understand what you agree to ^^

Not sure who you're replying to, but I hadn't agreed/confirmed to anything when I made this post.

Well, on the website it says the transfer is October 1st
And when you want to transfer it you have to agree that all licences will be transfered to Steam and you can't play the game on battle net any more
quick question: is the steam release any different? I remember getting destiny 2 for free on battle net or so, will it also migrate here?

^The main game and the first two DLCs (Curse of Osiris and Warmind) will be bundled together on Steam as New Light. It'll be free to play.
Provided you link your Battle.net account with your Steam account, via Bungie's website, then you'll be able to access your characters you had on Battle.net and any content you purchased beyond what's in the F2P New Light will migrate over.
