Destiny 2
Is there a benefit to doing legacy campaign quests?
Kind of confused on whether it's worth doing them.

Sure, they're worth doing to get a feel for the game and learn about the world. You'll also pick up some weapons and start grinding to the 900 power soft cap along the way.
Story..lore. Big benefit if you have not played them yet to understand whats going on. If you dont care about he story however..Not really.
not really, but if you're starting out on new light without dlc it's good for getting to the 900 power level soft cap
you get a random exotic at the end
Exotic at the end I guess
you get an exotic at the end wtf!!!!

i did all the campaing and got nothing
got an exotic for red war and osiris, none for warmind.
maybe its random and the chance is just very high?
i dont know why they changed it anway, before steam you could choose one of three exotics for your class, at some point in the story.

you don't get them, they removed them in new light, whether it's a bug or intended. Did them all already
Define .. worth ?

immersion is important, believe me, even if you're all about grind and power. Going through all the story won't be too long and will help you grinding the game for a longer time later if you like it, fueling a bit your imagination knowing about the world you're evolving into.

Some of the base games campaign missions are pretty cool. I found them fun to play in solo, but as co-op with a friend it would probably be even more fun.

Like if it has any effect in the long run. I'm mostly playing to try out different guns and abilities.

Everything of any value was removed from all the legacy content for everyone.

The literal only reason to do it is if you want to see the cut scenes and can't figure out YouTube.

Sure, you can get random drops out of it but you can also get those literally anywhere else doing anything else and doing those literally anything else tasks can at least complete two or more goals at the same time as opposed to the zero goals you will obtain from the legacy content.

The best part of the legacy content is how they don't tell you that all the rewards were stripped from it prior to being made free to play, so hopefully this warning will save at least one other person from wasting hours of their life based on outdated wiki information.
I do it for the story but I also got the Two-Tailed Fox Exotic Rocket Launcher drop when I killed an enemy playing the Red War campaign I think it was in one of the missions on Titan.

If so, it was randomly rolled and not a reward for anything related to the campaign. You would have received it in the open world too, and you would have probably received other rewards from other sources at the same time.

Just as a friendly FYI from someone who completed the entire campaign only to realize it gave nothing of use that I wouldn't have earned faster doing community events or...well...literally anything else in the game.

Bungie didn't technically lie about the content being free, they just neglected to mention that anything you might have wanted from that content in terms of real items was deleted from the game.
