Why is PVP so bad?
You wouldn't think these guys made Halo if you play PVP. What were they thinking?

Level design and pacing. I mean we can pretend that it is lighting the world on fire when it isn't even a blip in PVP games. Do they even have tournaments or anything like that? The whole thing just feels "off" when it comes down to it. Maybe it is the servers making it feel like that IDK.

well, any game that tries to do PvE AND PvP isn't going to live up to its full potential in either of them. honestly it's a testament to the shooting mechanics that i like this game as much as i do.

Umm sure. The PVP isn't difficult at all. It is almost easy at some points. This isn't my first PVP game so IDK why that is the response when I am trying to come to a conclusion on why Bungie seems to have missed the mark when they already had a very good formula from their previous work. It reminds me of Quake Champions in that they had a good formula and just seemed to ignore it or work on what made it good in the first place.

Ah I guess that is true. I just assumed the ones that stuck around would have at least played it and said it wasn't up to par. I think the other poster is right about the split between PVE and PVP being the reason for the lack of care in the PVP side. It's a shame because I think with some work it could really get the old feeling back again. At least PVE is amazing.

No one said it was hard? It isn't suppose to be? It's suppose to be enjoyable and fun and that's what it is and does. Stop treating things like they should be E-sports ready because it has a competitive mode.

PVP is a lot of fun at the point, don't know what's the point to make it competitive.

If you're primarily a PvP type of person, then you're playing the wrong game. It was never meant to be the focus of this game, and from a narrative perspective it's already on shaky ground.

You know, Draxx literally narrates the entirety of the match "And that's why fireteams are important!." You all made that look easy, etc. The game promotes the idea of playing with friends or just with random people and having fun. Even the introductory dialogue to the whole crucible promotes this simple idea, yet people want to turn it into a super competitive mode. I don't get it.

You get to keep your weapons, not use pre-made ones, so you have people with exotics or very well rolled gear. You get to use your super which can easily decimate en entire team multiple times if used properly to gain multiple orbs of light. You get powers that can be changed in various ways to give the edge and somehow people still want it to be an E-sports competitive mode? I just don't get it xD. Have fun ya dingdongs!

People are just affected by Nostalgia. PVP is PVP. People fight against each other. Theres not much more to it.

The formula for Destiny does work just fine. The pacing is air tight for one, slow, more methodical gunplay with extreme emphasis on precision hits and map control to secure heavy weapon ammo and firing lanes broken up by moments of utter chaos as people's Supers come on line around the same time.

The vast majority of the guns feel satisfying to use and the sound design makes most of them feel impactful even if you don't get a kill.

The wide variety of loadout possibilities and exotic interactions result in a bunch of builds that allow for a lot of experimenting, and Competitive play has such a high skill ceiling that there's always room to improve.

At the end of the day, it's subjective. You want a hyper-refined angle-grinded experience where everything behaves 100% predictably and every match plays out exactly how you'd expect it to because you prefer games like the original Halo's and Quake where every gun is fine tuned to hell and back and every map is made to emphasize that.

Destiny's PvP is built like a MOBA, where there's a ♥♥♥♥ ton of interactions that make it impossible to know exactly how something will play out and force you to adapt on the fly based on what loadouts were brought and the stats people have speced in to.

It's not for everybody, but that doesn't make it bad.

Everything you just said is objectively wrong. But continue.

like, if this game at least had dedicated servers, i could give it a pass on my own subjective judgement

but the thing is, all its flaws compund
titans are just blatantly overpowered in pvp,
theres a disgustingly strong meta,
and they also decided to lock some of the litteral best guns in the game behind a gamemode that a good chunk of the playerbase wont like

Objectively false.

^^ This.

I've been playing FPS games for 20 years now. I used to play other FPS games competitively. I'm pretty good at FPS games in general. The people who are really good at Destiny PVP are waaay better than me at it. Like, if a team of 4 of me played against a team of 4 of them, I don't think my team would get a kill. Look up cammycakes on YouTube for example, he's really good at explaining his thought process as he's playing. Destiny PVP is a lot deeper than it appears at a first glance.

Also, crucible is heavily featured in the lore of Destiny. It isn't "shaky on the ground" in any way shape or form. In the Destiny universe the Crucible is a training program for guardians and the matches are broadcast as entertainment. Lord Shaxx (the Crucible dude) is also fairly significant in the history of the Destiny universe.
