Weapon store?
I get that Destiny is a "loot game" where obtaining gear is the point, but... Is there a store where I can buy at least basic crappy weapons for cheap? I kind of really don't like the weapons the game started me with for reasons of personal taste. I generally don't like rifles in video games. I've seen in some of the cosmetics on sale that the game DOES have what looks like drum-mag LMGs and I'd really like to grab one of those. I don't seem able to do so, however. Do I just keep doing missions and keep my fingers crossed that one drops?

Hmm... That's unfortunate. Guess I'm relying on luck, then. I keep running into this problem with F2P games - no decent starting gear. Always have to fight tooth-and-nail for my LMGs. And yeah, I know Destiny 2 wasn't designed as a F2P game, but it has similar issues. I hate burst rifles, but the only decent weapon I have right now is a burst rifle.
Same, I have issues finding a second good Shotgun and Sniper while I only find Burst rifles, crappy revolvers, decent pistols and meh Smg's, while im still running the default shotgun

Dude, do you not understand what a loot game is?

You ONLY have 2 hours of ingame time on top of that...

I do, and I've addressed this earlier in the thread. I'm not looking for GOOD weapons, so much as SPECIFIC weapons. I've played a number of loot games, and most of them have crappy low-level versions of most of the high-level weapon types. The Division has low-level LMGs, Diablo has low-level greatswords, even Warframe has low-level LMG-style weapons which suck ass but still exist. That's sort of what I'm after here.

I'm sure I'll be upgrading that crappy standard weapon or finding better variants of it. Was just hoping to not have to keep using a Burst Rifle, honestly.

Warframe has high-tier lmgs which are great, but the work is kinda long tho

It does have a Mastery Rank 3 LMG, though - the Gorgon. It's terrible, it's hard to farm for and REALLY not worth the effort... But hey, I still enjoyed using it starting out :) Just for the record - I have since replaced the Gorgon with a variety of other LMGs, including a Prisma Gorgon. Those are actually pretty good, with the Tenora being my current favourite. Just... It was a holdover when I first started, is all.

I know this is getting off topic, but the Supra is a great Lmg, it requires MR 8 tho, but my favorite is Baros Supra Vandal, great LMG. LMG's youre mentioned are good aswell.

just play the game, and do some quests, you will get better gear. you may only be keeping that gear for 10 or 20 minutes of gameplay, until you find the next gun with a higher light level. dont even worry about your gear until you are closer to end game. infusing (upgrading) weapons isnt cheap, and it will be out-leveled before you know it anyways.
Hawthorne used to sell 3 uncommon rarity gear that randomized each week, don't know if she still does though, it doesn't show in her inventory on Destiny Item Manager.
Part of the journey is using all sorts of random crappy ass weapons because they happen to be your highest level one at the moment.

You won't find a LMG under legendary. You can get LMGs in the forge. Go to the tower, talk to ADA-1, she will have a weekly bounty that gives you a Ballistic Log, which you can use to purchase a Machine Gun frame. You'll need to complete some further objectives after that, then just start a forge and you'll get one.

Just like that? I thought "Legendary" stuff would be out-of-reach for a complete newbie? I guess the 750 Light Power or whatever bump that I've been reading about makes me eligible for that sort of thing? Either way, I do know where the Black Armour is - I spoke with all the NPCs. I'll try to figure out how her storefront works. Thanks for the tip.

The grind isn't so much getting weapon types, both fixed odds (menagerie LMG) and Hammerhead (forge LMG) are fairly easy to get given you have played the game more than a few hours. I highly recommend you start looking into Destiny YouTube channels, they all have SUPER useful information, and sometimes information you don't need to know, like the ornament/skin for the slug shotgun The Chaperone giving it a bonus 0.1% range.

Also earlier in the thread I heard you wondering where to start campaigns, while in your map literally just hold E and it will tell you all the major milestones you need to complete. Happy hunting guardian!
Just keep playing, every 3-5 minutes some of the enemies that you kill will drop an "engram" that will turn into a better weapon or a piece of armor. Tokens that you turn in to "buy" reward packages are better saved util you get into purple/legendary weapon territory, because you will get new and better blue/rare weapons every few minutes it's not worth buying.

Thank you, I will definitely do that. Should help me get my foot in the door. I can do with a bit more direction :)

Oh, I'm sure. The thing, though, is that there are certain weapon types I simply don't like using, even if they're "better" in theory. I played quite a bit of Vermintide 2 recently, and I had no issue using a weapon with a substantially lower Power Level if it was the only two-handed hammer I had access to at the time. I've done the same in The Division, scrapping high-level rifles to hold onto my lower-level KSP because I just like that kind of weapon.

I realise this might be aberrant behaviour, but I tend to care more about look and feel than I do about stats and performance. Indeed, being able to find something I like early in the game has been crucial for my experience. Even if they're technically "good," weapons that don't fit my playstyle tend to undermine the core experience.

---

Oh, that reminds me - what's the difference between "primary" and "energy" weapons? Those seem to have separate applicable weapons, but I can't tell either what the difference is supposed to be or what makes one weapon "more energy" than another. I mean, my current "energy" weapon is the Half-Life shotgun...
Looking at some basic guides on the internet may help you. Here's a paragraph I grabbed from somewhere about energy weapons.
---
Energy weapons shoot energy beams and bullets, all of which can come in a unique, elemental flavor: arc (electric), void (purple magic stuff) or solar (fire). On average, these energy weapons do slightly less damage to normal enemies than their kinetic cousins, but they deal far higher damage to shields.

If you are able to match the element of your gun to the shield you are shooting (for example, if you take down a Minotaur’s void shield with your void pulse rifle), the shield will explode, dealing massive damage to all enemy targets in the area. As in the original Halo games, use energy weapons to take down an enemy’s shield so you can finish them off with your kinetic weapon of choice.
I guess what confused me is I my only "energy" weapon for the longest time was a 20th Century slugthrower shotgun with nothing "energy" about it :) Thanks for the tip, though.
