No worries, it's going to be a bit confusing. A long version of the entire story can be found in the link I posted but yes, that campaign (The Red War) is the first campaign in Destiny 2. Long story short, you, a guardian, came back to life thanks to your robot 'ghost' and fight to protect humanity's last city in the solar system. There's been a bunch of adventures in the first game but long story short, the space turtles you're fighting (Cabal) are trying to capture the city and in short, capture the Traveler (giant white ball). The Traveler has great power and all the alien races either want that power or to destroy it. You're protecting it because it gives your power and the ghosts (floaty machine robot that talks to you) channel that power to keep you alive. Your ghost resurrects you if you die, and the Cabal wants the Traveler under their control to stop Guardians from using that power.
