Command Prompt "Run as Administrater" then type "taskkill /IM destiny2.exe" without the quotes

A PC restart should basically do the same, but it doesnt help at all.

Boys, I think i found a solution, it worked for me.

1. Go to your Destiny 2 File location. (In steam, right click destiny 2, go to Properties, then Local Files, and click Browse Local files. This should open your Destiny 2 directory.

2. Now highlight ALL files EXCEPT for "Packages", and move them onto your desktop for now. So your destiny 2 file should only have the packages currently.

3. Now go back to steam and right click destiny 2, go to Properties, then Local Files, and click Verify Integrity of Game Files.

It should download the missing files you removed and fix the game for you like it did for me.

GOOD LUCK!

I did it, I copy the files EXCEPT "Packages" in a new folder on the desktop, then I follow all the points. Now I can play destiny 2. Thanks:steamhappy:

this solution is so damn weird but its the ony one that worked for me, and i've tried everything else from this thread:

Launch Destiny 2 and once the error pops up leave it open.

Go to your Destiny 2 Folder and delete the steamid file. Make sure your destiny2.exe doesn't have run as administrator or disable fullscreen optimizations enabled.

Now without closing the Destiny 2 Error box, launch the game again. Wait atleast 30 seconds.

Now, close the error box.

Launch Destiny 2.

PC

"" We are investigating various issues reported by players in PC Migration. In the meantime, any player encountering issues should retry PC Migration here (https://www.bungie.net/7/en/PCMove).
Players who are encountering “problem reading game content” errors on Steam should try deleting the steam_appid.txt file in their Destiny 2 folder. Players performing these steps must also ensure that they are NOT launching Destiny 2 using the “Run as Administrator” option.
Example directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Destiny 2
Players may also find this under …\Destiny2\bin\x64
Players with more than 300 friends on Steam may experience crashes at the title screen. Players encountering this issue should lower their friends list to less than 300 people.
Fireteam chat will not work when Steam is offline.
All offline players in Clans will not display their name, but instead, will show Offline.
If players create a Fireteam while Steam is down, other players will never be able to join them""

Alright, I know I'm late to the party here, but I've been having the bug ever since I got it and jazz on Oct 1st. Thing is, I'm not experiencing it on start up, or in the character selector screen. It occurs at random during gameplay, typically when loading between zones or going to different planets. I've noticed it's more frequent in places like Earth and The Moon, and it completely prevents me from going to the Dreaming City. I've tried just about every fix I could find but nothing has helped. The game IS playable, But for me to get any quests done or do anything consistently I'm stuck on the crutch of having a friend alongside me that I can join back up with. The strangest part? I've almost never encountered it on Nessus, and not once has it ever occurred in the tower (although it has happened while trying to go To it from elsewhere)

I've just thought of something you could try. After searching my PC for "Destiny" I found a folder at [drive]:\users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Bungie which includes preferences files. If you delete this folder it will likely reset all your preferences so I would rename the folder to something else and try to run the game.

If it works you just have to set up all your preferences again, if it doesn't work just rename the folder back to DestinyPC so that your preferences are there when you do find a fix.

It's worth a try and it's what I'd try if the game was broken, something in your config might have gone haywire.

That appears to have worked for now. Only setting I've changed is the Fullscreen to Windowed. I've managed to touch down in the Dreaming City and now my only bug is having some strange unnamed connection issue that I suspect to be Centipede or something like that happening mid-game that just results in infinite loading and an inability to view the inventory.

I'll give updates on if the bug happens again, what I'd been doing/where I was, Etc. Since a lot of people have this bug, I figure the more potential fixes we have, the more potential people can get it fixed, Y'know?

EDIT: Scratch what I said earlier, After restarting the game thanks to the connection glitch, My attempt to drop down at the city was met once more with the Game Files one. It seems this was a step in the right direction though.

I wonder if maybe the AppData folder has the same security as the Program Files folder (in that some things require admin access to modify), you could maybe launch the game as Admin, or launch Steam as admin. If that doesn't work you can try to set the Destiny folder in AppData to fully writeable. I'm just spitballing but it's stuff worth trying.
Levion Nov 5, 2019 @ 5:05pm
Running stuff as Admin didn't seem to change anything, and the folder was already Fully Writeable from the get-go. I'mma be careful about messing around with the admin stuff on this, since the last time I tried it, I somehow triggered the forbidden txt file to spawn in the game's directory and it wouldn't be vanquished until I reinstalled the game.

When i faced with it, i just rebooted my PC without any checking of the game files, It helpt me before. But when i bougth new motherboadrd/CPU/RAM, this problem is gone.
I dont know how it works.
