Why is Destiny 2 no longer on Battle.net?
Hi, first of all: This is not a complaint. I'm not a fan of Activision in general and yeah, I never liked the idea to see non-blizzard games on the battle.net launcher.

However, I am a bit confused. I picked Destiny 2 up at launch, played it for a few weeks but after that I kinda lost interest. Other games appeared on the market and that was that. Now I've seen a few people saying good stuff about this game and only a few moments ago I've learned that the game is on Steam now.

Can someone tell my why the game is on Steam now? Is Activision no longer involved in the game or what's going on there? :o

Really? And Activision just let them keep the Destiny brand? That's.. suprising. But I guess this is more than enough reason for me to give Destiny 2 another shot.

Thanks for clearing that situation up for me!

Activision never owned the Destiny brand to begin with. It was under Bungie's contract and copyright, they own the rights to Destiny, Activision acted similar to what EA is, a publisher to Bungie.

They split after due to "issues" between the two, and felt that Activision was going to doom Destiny simply due to the problems with "Money." If Destiny stayed any longer with Activision then it'll end up like Black Ops with microtransactions and demands.

because of activision. bungie had to make d1 and d2 to fit activision business model in order to be published. so they had activision interference in the games and how they worked, and probably in eververse and how that worked. now bungie have gone independent.

but look at it this way:
if there are microtransactions, its how bungie want them to work, not forced on them by the publisher, making the game worse unless you buy. bungie is changing eververse now it doesnt have big brother telling it not to.

AND with my steam games i have NEVER had steam and the game stop talking to each other, like the chard errors that happened with destiny2 and battlenet app. no more getting dumped to main menu and having to close the game and restart because of battlenet losing link to destiny 2. so it should be more stable, no more losing out on a heroic public event you needed to do for a quest stage because i just dont see steam doing that.

finally, destiny 2 new light isnt the same as the game you played. forsaken dlc changed it a lot, from what i read, and shadowkeep is an example; you dont need all prior dlc to play shadowkeep like you did with forsaken. shadowkeep is standalone.

also, destiny 2 new light changes are massive. new armor 2.0 system, new mod system, a seasonal piece of equipment is an adition which you level up during play, in each season. they are rebalancing drop rates of exotics and legendaries, rebalancing weapons in pve and pvp. you will be able to do patrols on all areas regardless of if you have the dlc forsaken or shadowkeep expansion. but without forsaken or shadowkeep you wont be able to do the campaign.

everyone is starting at level 50 and 750 power regardless if they were there yet or not. also the new guardian opening mission has been changed, you dont just jump straight into the red war campaign now; so a new player doesnt have to complete the red war to play with their friends.

lots of changes since you last played. forsaken alone is worth whatever they are charging, that was a great story, and great worlds and activities in tangled shore and dreaming city.

For the launcher, i believe its as Activision Blizzard is keeping their launcher completely just for their own games and no one elses. Now Destiny is Bungie "published", it was always going to be removed now its not their's, but they let them get a system together to transfer the game out. Turns out it went to steam as it could of gone anywhere or even their own bungie launcher.

they had to pay a large amount of money to buy the rights to Destiny tho,so it wasnt SO simple xD Bungie was happy with Forsaken so were us the players BUT the Investors were not, made it eassier for bungie and activision to split

They can't buy the rights to something they already owned, otherwise they would have never got away from Activision. Bungie was smart and didn't let them have too much.
Incorrect wording from him, it's more so that they bought themselves out of their contract to produce 4 Destiny games. So now Bungie is free to go forward how they please.
