What gear to keep in vault?
I have been playing for a week and my vault is already so full it is hard to see all that I have.

I also think I saw that we can smelt our unwanted weapons and that we can share our vault stuff with new characters, so that we could easily equip a new character with 900+ gear from the beginning.

So that brings an obvious questions to mind:

- Is there any point in saving lower level gear in the vault?
- Once you have 3 sets of the best gear you have saved in the vault... is there any reason to save more?

I keep exotics in there or armour sets I like the look of. Various levels so when i eventually decide to make a 3rd toon it will level quickly. Also there is class specific items sold by Xur that I try to buy and vault.

Various levels... do you mean that if a piece of gear is too high you can't equip it? If yes, what is the rule of what you can equip?

(I am on my first character and everything I got I could equip)

People keep stuff? I just dismantle. You can just buy it back from your Collections anyways. Right?

You can't get purples with random perks from your collection so you might want to keep them in your vault until you have learned enough about the game to decide which combinations of perks are worth keeping. There's always a chance an update could make something worthless suddenly desirable too. There are obviously limits though I mean the vault isn't infinite.

To OP: remember you can always bump up the light level of armor and weapons by infusing it. All things considered the actual light level of an item is about the least noteworthy thing about it since you can easily change it.

What the dude above me said. Things I like the look of that I can't rebuy from collections. Things I may want to try out on another toon or I may want to infuse and use myself later. I don't do this a great deal and mostly just dismantle everything.

I think I got it now. Summarizing:

- Keep purple, yellow and cool looking sets, as much as fits in vault.
- Don't worry about light level as they can be infused later to bring them up in level.
- When there is no more room... no worry, as things can be crafted back from collections.

Thank you everyone.
Id say ANY armor that has +55 stats should go into the vault to be looked at once you hit 950.

Most of my exotics go in the vault as well.

Also learn the best traits on certain weapons goes a long way.

I used to keep my raid gear in the vaults and all my exotics, kind if different now that I can just suck it all out of collections.

You cant do raid gear (Legendairy gear) afaik? Unles they changed that, but ehh, only exotics you can pull. RNG raid gear (year 2 and later), cant.

What I do:

Weapons, I keep at least one of each legendary and exotic I like. I bank the one with the perks I like too and lock them so I dont accedientlly delete it. On power level, I keep a range but its usually higher side. None of my stufff is in the 800’s etc.

Armor: I store armor sets on my characters until the char inventory is full, then I start storing sets. If I find a piece with more stats (60 is magic number) then I replace

Exotics - I keep em all in the vault besides armor exptics I constantly use.

Ships/ vehicles/ghost shells - I keep all of these legendary or higher.

Do you need to do something special for collections to work? I noticed that most (all?) of my gear says it can't be reacquired from collections.

It will power level quickly regardless since it's drops are based on if it's wearing all your high level weapons on your main. I just rolled up a new titan, got to 900 almost instantly and 955+ in less than two hours.

sign in, go to gear and check your weapons to see good combinations. Also if you have any legendary gear with a base total stat of 60 those are extremely good.

That's how collection works, it's only useful for exotics, Year1 stuff and sparrows/ships/ghosts/shaders. You can't pull any gear that has random rolls: year2 weapons, year2 armor, Armor2.0 (year3 armor - the current system).

It's almost useless for any up-to-date gear, unfortunately.
