Out of curiosity - Do you do Ranching?
You can build an Ranch for Yakmels, Coop for Chickens and Hutch for Floppies (rabbits?). Problem is they are kinda worthless for the space they need, 10x10 space per building. By the time I had room for 1 of them the items gained from them were a complete non issue.

Outside of role playing a farmer has anyone found an actual use for ranching?

I think it depends on how much extra crafting you do. The Yakmels and Floppies produce things that you can burn through quickly if you are making enough cloth/threads/etc. As for the milk and eggs from the Yakmel and Chickens, I think how much you need them will depend on how much you cook. I've not really hit a revelation with the feathers but oh boy do I have them available.

The materials gained through ranching can be useful for cooking more than anything. You'll have way more raw material than is needed, even if you do occasionally craft the extra set of clothing. There's no need in game to craft tons of clothing. IMO raising Yakmel then selling them off for gols when grown is what I mainly use ranching for.

Me too. I let then produce something to cook and then sell and buy a new ones. Good easy money.

I did a hutch for a bit last run through just to see how the money was. Baby bunny cost a little over 800 gol and grown bunny sold for around 1100 gol, took 3 days, i think, to grow them. Made a tidy sum before I decided it was no longer worth it, plus got quite a bit of fine fur from the day they turned adult.

I started ranching once I had enough space for a barn and coop. At first, it was great getting 24 eggs and milk a day. After about 3 weeks in-game, I'm ready to sell the animals and tear down the structures. Daily petting and manure cleaning is just tedious and lost its charm. And at this point, I have enough milk and eggs to last for a long time.

Nope, too much work. I just made a garden purely to fill the wild amount of extra space I have - a bit salty I can't plant those pretty Black Saxoul trees at home though. I had plans, dangit. :AggroCrab:
I like having one or two of each of the animals because I try to make my shop as self-sufficient as possible.

I'm not going to ranch until I know for sure Rosy is fixed. She wasn't taking care of them, and now I'm playing Portia again until the new update. Both my saves still have a poor baby yak in chests.

Does anyone know - can you still "pet" all your animals with the feather duster like you could in Portia? I had chickens and bunnies and got tired of them fast due to Rosy not helping properly. I forgot you could even do that in Portia.

I will have all 3 eventually.

I have all the animals on my farm for the looks - but the milk and yak stuff does help when i wanna make food or sell some goods from the jewelry machine sometimes. I have Rosy to help me - but i do have to save and restart my run in the mornings so that she actually does her chores. I'm on my third run and decided to get the yak i was given out - i wanted the milk and goods it provides - but i wont go full out with buying four of them this run.

You cant pet them with the feather dusters - i dunno if they will ever program that in but i miss it also. I've been able to pet about three at a time if i get into a group of them - so it isnt such a slog or takes as long.

Okay..... What I'm taking from these comments is that my Yakmel Ranch was bugged to hell. It took something like 2 weeks before my Yakmels started to produce anything and I definitely didn't get 12 milks a day, was lucky to get 12 items total a day... It was much easier to go random murder-sprees occasionally, at least then I'd get leather and meat as well.

I sold them after maybe 2 months and they were still marked "still growing," the only worthwhile thing I got was the around 700 gols per yakmel I got profit.

I raise them because of the profit - buy, grow, took some material, sell, rinse and repeat. It's a optional thing though, if you don't want to do the chores, you allways can forget the ranch part or do the money only with the horses (buy, give medicine to raise stats, sell).

I don't bother with animal raising. Got enough going on as it stands, and something had to give.
I think my issues with long-term ranching/chicken coop were the tedious amount of crap to manually clean up and I struggled with water early on to keep the pomato gardening up adequately.

After getting helpers and enough water, it pretty much became automated free materials to sell.

It is still crazy to me blenders are used for fertilizers AND some food processing.

I only got floppies at the beginning (rabbits) and so far it helped a lot by selling them, right after they reach full happiness and growth. Pretty easy money with just the Floppies and they grow fast, chickens grow faster though but only a little.

I still haven't gotten the yakmel though, still in a box that Elsie gave me and I tried to tell her I wasn't ready for it... It might be awhile. :lunar2019deadpanpig: Rip Doodles.
