Is it meant to run this badly?
Just for interest my system is windows 10, 4070 gpu 10700k cpu overclocked, 16gig ddr4 ram 3600mhz and running the game on high (not extremely high) I seem to struggle to run the game at 60fps I’m not saying my system is the best out there but I can run other games over 60, and although I like the graphics in this game it’s hardly ground breaking when it comes to graphics just wondering what other peoples experiences and systems are as it seems to me like the game is poorly optimised, also my graphics drivers are up to date, I didn’t expect to pay £600 for a graphics card to struggle with a game from an indie developer

possibly driver related issues, or even IGPU?
DragonIV Dec 20, 2023 @ 7:44pm
Yeah, I'm nowhere near your spec (i7 10700KF, 2070super) also on Win 10 and I think I hit 60 at max settings I think. Definitely be sure your drivers are up to date. I'll rerun the game and see for sure what I'm getting and what my settings are.

I'm late game--running around the town and my yard, I see FPS ranging btw 50-80fps, it's all over the place but never drops below 50.

My settings are maxed, but my resolution is just 1080p. So if you have a 4k monitor, you probably are getting worse performance.

The game just dosn't utilize cpu and gpu to the fullest, when outside the highest cpu core usage for me is around 80% (with everything cranked to max). I'm also on 4070 and sandrock dosn't have graphics advanced enough to push this card above 50% usage on 1440p.

I’m at 1080 resolution and I have the latest NVIDIA drivers installed but I’m not sure if it’s using my graphics card or igpu I haven’t changed anything so it should select my card, I’m just surprised that at 1080 resolution I’m not getting over 100fps in this game, I’ve got other games that are newer or more graphically intense that I get over 100fps on so i just wondered if other people get bad frames I mean 50-80fps for a game like this doesn’t sound that great, I’m gonna check when I get home again but I’m just surprised at the poor performance and wondered what others are experiencing

Yupp it's the average Unity performance.
DragonIV Dec 21, 2023 @ 7:08am
Are you on a laptop, or desktop? On a desktop, as long as your monitor is plugged into the nvidia card, there's no way you can use the igpu on a game. If a laptop, there should be some utility to set the default graphics source for each game if desired.

But yeah, the game is definitely not great performance-wise. Still, 50-80fps for this kind of game is fine, I certainly don't notice much. Frankly, unless it drops under 30 I'd probably not notice with this type of graphics.

I had that problem when I had the game installed on a second drive. Moving it to the main drive fixed the problem.

I am running an R 5 3600 cpu, with an RTX 3070, 16 gigs of ram @ 3000 and A mother board b550 and an m2 drive. Im hooked to my 4k tv.
At 1080p all settings on max I have a solid 60 fps, it will constantly be switching between 59 and 60 but for the most part is at 60, I do have fps limit to 60 and vertical sync on, since Im on a tv and not on monitor.
@1440p all settings on high I do get 60+ fps with no sync and no fps limit. I can Easily hit 80 fps.

So with that said, I recommend you look into your pc settings, your graphics card settings and your overall your pc hardware set up, because sometimes things as simple as a mother board or ram could be whats dragging your over all performance.

Also I forgot to mention that I have the epic store version, dont know if there would be any difference in performance but hey you never know, some times on steam games run better than on game pass, talking about the same games that are on both, and sometimes its the opposite.

I'm not having any issues like you describe, but I do have mine on my ssd. Though tbf when it was on my lowly hdd I didn't have issues either.

You said your driver was up to date, did you try reinstalling it just in case? Sometimes they don't install properly.

Is it possible the 16 GB just isn't enough? I've got 64 GB on this rig, and next time I'll go for more, but ever since my final project years ago included a scene with sunlight that took 6 hours to render I've erred on the side of more and more RAM. lol

Also, what games do you play that you aren't having trouble with? That might help with troubleshooting.

idk. mine crashes every few minutes. idk if its the game, steam, or my AMD, but i didnt have the issue in early release. i do have it on a ssd now tho.

I've experienced no issues with this game such as crashing, running poor frames, and the likes.

W11, i5-12600k, 32gb ram, NVME, 1660Ti, Extreme Settings. 1920x1080 60fps. If I raise the cap to 144fps, in town I'm around 60fps. In the desert it's 80fps. If I idle in the desert, 100fps.

I feel like the further you get into the game and the more stuff that gets added to the town makes the game run worse.

I recently started a new playthough and noticed how smooth everything was at first but then it gradually started getting worse the further i progressed.

This game is bottlenecking like crazy.
I'v already checked with every possible utility.
MTAS is badly optimized and mainly uses CPU instead of GPU.
All those people who tells you, that their game runs perfectly, are simply don't get this problem. Look at their specs.
Powerful graphics card are simply not supported.
Yeah, it's stupid. But it's the harsh truth.

I can run Starfield on max settings with no issues whatsoever. No issues in Sandrock either.
