List of Easter Eggs *Spoilers*
The game is full of tons of nods and easter eggs relating to 90s culture, and I wanted to mention some of them as some are not that obvious or easy to find.

1, BastIen, who you meet on the first island, is based on the "pretty fly for a white guy" offspring video, where he directly mentions that "I asked for a 13 but they drew a 31" when you ask him about his sports team tshirt. If you look at their clothing, it's pretty much identical.
2, Grizzly is heavily influenced by rambo, despite not exactly looking like rambo (maybe a bit more rambo first blood and early rambo), and this is actually a nod that goes back to original jagged alliance 2, where grizzly came with a bow-tie knife, which was made famous by rambo. Also due to their background you can tell that they have very similar backgrounds.
3, first blood commando and mission impossible difficulties are of course references.
4, Livewire is probably a nod to Limewire, a famous bit torrent client that replaced Kazaa in very early 2000s (like 2004 or so).

Feel free to add some other ones you spotted. And not the obvious ones like difficulty names, obviously.

I think your #4 is actually another music reference, 80's Motley Crue song "Live Wire"...which is also just a cool hacker name.

Or could also reference the really crappy action movie from the 90s, also called "Live Wire"

No, no
You better turn me loose
You better set me free
Because I'm hot, young, running free
A little bit better than I used to be
'Cause I'm alive
Live wire

Multiple references to the TV series Twin Peaks in the Chalet de la Paix sectors.

"My log saw something that night"
"The fish was in the percolator!"
"The owls are not what they seem"

I believe "King Chicken" is an homage to both a book and movie about a Japanese POW camp. Where a former private ruled the camp by providing goods and services to both the guards and prisoners. He was called King Rat. He bred rats and sold the meat to the guards and officers while getting preferential treatment.

When the camp was liberated, he became just another nobody, which I think led to the reference after the camp is liberated that "no one needs my eggs anymore" or something similar.

When you find Biff with the Green diamond, his dialogue is taken from Bilbo's reluctance to handover the ring to Frodo in the Lord of the Rings.

The dialogue about the diamond trade in fleatown is a Catch22 (the book) reference (Everybody has a share). In the book some army guy pulls off a similar stunt with eggs.

Another book reference from the conversation with Lalee, the meaning of life is 42 is from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Yup, already mentioned it 1st reply to this thread, also there is at least another Hitchiker's reference, see reply #3 : )

1 when you talk to a merc on AIM, there are usernames shown for each merc, some of which are quite interesting.
2 *spoilers* when attacked by a squad of soldiers in the sector with the painless doc npc, some of their names will be reminiscent of candie from django unchained, hans landa from inglorious bastards, pmc wagner, and ... marco rubio the centrist politician? lmao
3 luigi the npc may actually not be a reference to the infamous super mario game, but may be a reference to omerta, a very early game from haemimont that also borrowed a lot of ideas and features from jagged alliance and had two hierlings called mario and luigi, who were italian mobsters.
4 *spoilers* the "rescue mollie" quest may be somewhat based on super mario, and smiley might be toad? since toad also wears a hat and smiles. It's definitely not traditional retelling that's for sure lol.

If you have Larry on your team when you first interact with Boss Blaubert, Luigi is definitely a reference to Mario!:steamhappy:

Not only claims Dr. Kronenberg, it wouldn't be murder, if it's done for science, but Raven retords with the question if she promised their subjects cake.

The brothel has a guy outside doing similar lines from the movie From Dusk Til Dawn.
Fallout 2 did the same thing.

This might be a stretch, but Dr. Q always made me think of the T.V. show Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, which was a pretty popular show and debuted a year or so before JA1 came out.

But Dr. Quinn isn't an asian man so..

The basic "Karen" with her first world problems in the refugee camp.

In camp hope, you get a blood sample from a wrapped corpse named Ozzy. Some NPCs mention he was the first, because he bit off the head of a bat. :secrectorder:

Tex may have been a reference to a character called Kenchi Smith, american ninja, a asian man dressed in cowboy clothes with two revolvers, who was in a japanese power rangers episode from 1995.

The Old Granny near the Cursed Woods asks whether we are lost in the woods.

The possible answers are:
  • Yes
  • No
  • Maybe
  • We (I) don't know
  • Can you repeat the question?

which are the opening lyrics to the theme song "Boss of Me" from Malcolm in the Middle.
