Could go and play the game again on mission impossible?
Otherwise, no, there really isn't anything out there that is truly similar. I used to love the commandos series (until the last installment, that was utter garbage, sadly). However, getting your guys killed in there was a bad idea all round. Can't think of any game with characters you can afford to lose.
Edit: You could try war mongrels.
However, if you like difficult and unknown game mechanics, you could try WH40k Chaosgate. Completely different atmosphere, of course.
And much more difficult but can still be fun.
The first two hours cost nothing.
But Xcom games are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing. I'd start with enemy unknown and move onto its add on and then 2.
I normally don't like aliens but the idea you're fighting off an alien menace (no pun intended) makes you feel like your actions have consequences on the world whether you win battles or fail.
And I am playing JA3 on comma do as well but sadly I savescum a lot ..
