Just finished JA3 on commando, similar games to this?
So I finished JA3 on commando a couple of days ago and had a blast. Since I never used save/load but accepted the consequences of my decisions, slightly more than half of the A.I.M mercs were killed in action by the end of the game. Brutal but awesome experience.

I am looking for a game providing similar fun like JA3. Looked at X-Com 2 gameplay but dont like the alien stuff. Might go with wasteland 3 but it looks like it has quite an amount of some weird science fiction too, so I am not 100 percent sure yet.

Any thoughts?

If older games are acceptable Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel sounds right up your alley.

Could go and play the game again on mission impossible?

Otherwise, no, there really isn't anything out there that is truly similar. I used to love the commandos series (until the last installment, that was utter garbage, sadly). However, getting your guys killed in there was a bad idea all round. Can't think of any game with characters you can afford to lose.

Edit: You could try war mongrels.

Since you don't seem to like SciFi, my recommendation is probably not for you.

However, if you like difficult and unknown game mechanics, you could try WH40k Chaosgate. Completely different atmosphere, of course.

And much more difficult but can still be fun.

The first two hours cost nothing.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Desperados 3 might work.

Xcom ?!

Xcom 2 is amazing. And trust me : I usually hate sci fi like Mass Effect games and stuff like that.

But Xcom games are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing. I'd start with enemy unknown and move onto its add on and then 2.

I normally don't like aliens but the idea you're fighting off an alien menace (no pun intended) makes you feel like your actions have consequences on the world whether you win battles or fail.

And I am playing JA3 on comma do as well but sadly I savescum a lot ..

there are a lot of good turn based tactics games but not many with a management layer and I dont think any with individually written characters. there is battle brothers and war tales for fantasy stuff. battle brothers is a lot better game but the graphics might be a turn off. tactics wise i think your closest comparison and best pick would actually be xcom 2. else, if you can take old graphics maybe give jagged alliance 2 a spin? if youre just looking for any tactics game, my favorites in recent years were the last spell and darkest dungeon 2.

divinity original sin 1/2 are also great tactics games but especially the second one is very rpg heavy.

Wasteland 3, wartales.

Silent Storm and its less known sequel Hammer&Sickle. To the lesser degree, cops 2170: the power of law and paradise cracked. Also Phoenix Point.
