I killed the pumpkin king at the end of her quest-line, getting the bell and handing it in to her to finish the quest. I then helped the human kingdom to conquer the Harvest Kingdom in order to be able to recruit her as you cannot make her pregnant.
Are these the right steps to getting her? It would seem intuitive she would have it when you rescue her. She even has dialogue when she joins the camp where she says "Here take this" but she doesn't actually give you an item? Unless you have to semi-finish the quest, killing the pumpkin king then not hand in the bell and have her besieged?
First, make sure that you've met scarecrow princess and gotten some candy corn from her.
Second, when you've reached the point in the quest line that you have to either side with the pumpking or harvest princess, slip into harvest princess's room at night and convince her to leave.
Third, use that candy corn to recruit scarecrow princess.
Fourth, go and murder the pumpking, netting you the bell. It doesn't even matter if scarecrow princess is in the party, either. Had I thought about it when I did it last, I would've used her to kill him just for the irony.
Finally, go to the slave markets and keep trying until you get your hands on harvest princess, and voila! You now have a pair of princesses and the bell.
The point of the quest was that you gave the bell to Harvest Princess so that he could change into her because the bell was stolen when he was last a boy. Once you do this the bell is gone forever. If you don't do the Harvest Princess route you're knocked out when the reign is under siege and choose to save the princess and the Pumpkin King challenges you because he claims that he gets to decide Harvest Princess' fate, not you. You likely didn't get this if you already killed him before hand, got the bell, and turned it in. Killing him then nets you the bell, but if you go along with the Harvest Princess' quest line of getting the bell back for him then you lose it because you give it to the Harvest Princess unless you never continue it after killing the pumpkin king. Of course once you kill the pumpkin king, regardless if its from a siege or because you did most of the quest beforehand to get to that point, it'll lock you out of Scarecrow Princess if the pumpkin king is dead.
Yeah that's what seems silly to me. The point of the request was to get the bell back for her so that she can return to being a girl, yet she remains male afterwards anyway?
I'm not really interested in getting the scarecrow princess and I've heard plenty of people saying buying the Harvest Princess back as a slave is inconsistent (for example the post above).
So can I kill the pumpkin king, NOT continue the quest, instead keeping the bell for myself, then convince the human princess to siege the harvest reign? THEN rescue her from the siege, thereby having both the bell and her?
Honestly it's very convoluted, they really should just give you a way to conventionally recruit her once the questline is complete. Especially since to get her you essentially have to betray her and massacre her people or have her enslaved - ouch
Honestly though, your best option is to just do another route for a ng+ and get the cardinal bell to have permanently and carry over to ng+ and then do the harvest route again so you can pick up a second one and still keep the one you have.
Yeah that makes sense, I got around the lack of affinity by just giving her/him gifts. I feel like in future the devs should allow you an option to recruit her "normally" like you can with other princesses and for the bell to "come with" him/her. Oh well, thanks for you help! Don't quite understand NG+ yet but I'll learn!
Absolutely. It seems obvious to me that the cardinal bell should be the dowry you get for completing the Harvest Princess questline and recruiting her. Then you should be able to use to transform her body whenever you choose. (If you spend the night with her, she could even be like "which way do you want my body to be tonight?") It's really bizarre that it just disappears and she never uses it after you recover it.
1: Use the bell to make HarvestP female (obviously do this before finishing their quest and losing it)
2: Sneak into their room at night, take their panties, and use the red thread rings on them, then put them back.
3: Use the other ring on one of your party members (such as KoboldP)
4: Use the shorty special to improve your odds of success
5: Do a sex on said party member
If you'd prefer HarvestP to be male, then do all this before returning the bell, then use the bell again after they have an heir.
Saw this trick somewhere (Reddit I think?) after wanting to recruit them myself, and looking around a bit.
HarvestP, iirc, is canonically genderfluid. Thus, they/them.
