How many people actually use both guns in dual-wield deadeye mode?
I ask because I've been doing some runs in that mode: https://youtu.be/utUWYmSA0Ms?si=0CFolNEb1X-vyJQM

A while ago I posted to reddit about this playstyle and someone told me that I shouldn't use both guns, instead I should just drop one and play as if it was one-handed, which seemed kind of scummy to me.

I want to play actual dual wield partly because it's more fun for me, and because I'm using this game to get more fit, and I don't want to get my shoulders and arms out of balance holding a two-handed pistol grip for hours at a time.

Apparently they beat my score this way (it wasn't on the above level, that score's been beaten by someone else) and it seems like they're just abusing a loophole in the scoring system to play the game in a way not intended and prevent people who actually want to work on their dual-wielding from having fair competition.

This person isn't on most of the dual-wielding boards, the level they did was an obscure one that I'd been playing at the time.

Anyway, if this is an issue, I've been thinking about an extra modifier exclusive to dual wield mode that would make this kind of cheese impossible. I say an extra modifier because I wouldn't want the current leaderboards to be affected by this.

The modifier would be this: if you're playing dual wield deadeye and you turn on this modifier, if you reload and shoot one pistol twice in a row without shooting the other pistol, it counts as a miss. So that means for the miss to occur, you'd need to reload -> shoot -> reload -> shoot, all on the same gun, without shooting the other gun.

I specify it like this because this gives you a decent amount of leeway to shoot -> reload -> shoot -> reload without incurring a penalty. This is a situation that happens often enough in my experience, where you'll run out, reload and have to shoot again to hit your target, then reload right after out of habit. This wouldn't be punished.

It's when you shoot again after reloading twice that you're overusing that one pistol. This is to necessitate using both pistols for a good score, without being too draconian. I think this would strike a good balance.

I know this is a really niche issue, it's just I have looked and looked and I haven't found a single other person uploading gameplay footage of dual wield deadeye, and after what that person told me on reddit I'm wondering how many people play like this.

but isn't the person shooting only 1 gun already at a disadvantage?
you have 2 guns
how is it a cheese to only use 1 gun?

It's the fact you have to aim the guns, and bad aim is penalised. If you can shoot fast enough to get enough hits with one gun at higher accuracy, then it doesn't matter how much more you can shoot with two guns if you get too many penalties. These guys are already hitting almost everyone on the stage. Shooting with your off-hand is lower accuracy in general.

I'm also going off the fact someone who's apparently good at the game told me it gave them an advantage. and advised me to do the same, which obviously I'm not going to do.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get better at it until that advantage disappears, but I don't know if that's going to happen.

i don't see the point if you weren't going to learn to shoot both. I'm mainly a single pistol user but recently since one of my controllers is half broke, i've been learning dead eye duals. Very satisfying to shoot two guys at once. But yes, using single is absolutely an advantage over two about 99% of the time. Also there are two people that i know of that play dual wield dead eye. but one doesn't play anymore last i knew. The other streams pretty often

Well this one guy thought it was worth it just to teach me that I sucked apparently, actually thought it was good advice to tell me not to use both. I'm glad there are other people that do it.

It's fascinating that whenever firearms folks "try out" dual wielding they do it for like a couple of hours and then conclude it's impossible. Mythbusters and Jonathan Ferguson did that, but like... it takes months to learn this skill.

I'd love to know who you know that streams it. I've found nothing on youtube.

Codewhip was ahead of anyone with duals but doesn't stream nor play anymore, cyrenevr streams duals deadeye. I wouldnt say it takes months. just a few days. just a matter of getting use to seeing the right aim point

Oh cool, thanks, I'll look that up. I'd say months because I've been finding all kinds of subtle ways the ergonomics of my wands mess me up if I don't have them set just right. I actually have a 23 degree adjustment on their angle towards the middle of my body because my hands are so big they wrap a long way around the index and make it impossible to hold naturally the way it was intended. It wasn't too hard to get started but I've had to make a lot of adjustments to get through the skill ceilings I've been hitting.

Who cares? Play it however you want.

I care? That's why I asked. I want to see other people who play this way and if there's anyone talking about techniques, etc.

If you don't care then you're free to not comment on it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bro I wouldn't listen to redditors on anything. Especially when it comes to how to play physical activity games lol

Yeah, I definitely didn't care about high scores, until I started to realise I could top some of the leaderboards. Now I want to know because I want to find other people doing the same thing and see if anyone has any information about it.

I only use dual guns - way more fun to take down two people at the same time on the beat. I like the modifiers too because I enjoy a workout - I just cracked top 10 worldscore with dual pistols, ricochet, and high speed bullets. It's a cheap rush, but a rush HI'll enjoy nonetheless.
other than the campaign, i only play with one controller turned on, holding it with two hands like a real gun. its much more fun for me that way.

So one of my wands died and it took me a while to replace it. I can say pretty confidently that in that time I learned there's only so far you can get with one gun. Once you reach a certain level of skill, the volume of fire you can bring with two guns outweighs the extra accuracy you get with one gun.

When you can learn to line up one gun whilst shooting another, you can almost double your rate of fire, or at least increase the time you have available to aim.

Maybe I could learn to be better with one, but I just don't care to. I think my suggestion of a different scoring mode is pretty moot now that I've learned this.
