start slowly, like begin with a lower difficulty or level you know well to get warm first. then maybe do some stretching before you go into the harder difficulties and levels of the game.

i mean, reflex wise i can handle normal difficulties, but yeah once i have to do 20 circular squats it starts getting painful lol. i did some stretches before starting but i'll have to look into more leg focused stretches before i play this game. in hindsight the day after i also realize i tend to prefer rotating to the right to dodge when i could probably swap it up every wave or so.

I took a long break due to a knee injury, the multiple squats over and over again are rough starting back up, especially playing maps I've never played before (two new campaigns since I've last played).
My personal style is to almost always be at least slightly squatting and try not to jerk. If you get to a section where you don't know where to move yet, it is okay to take an L in the game instead of quick reacting and pulling or straining something. It is a hard thing to learn.

Also, there is a growing body of evidence that static stretching prior to working out actually increases risk of injury, especially if you are new to it and have never really stretched before (higher risk of over-stretching).
The stuff I do now is Light Jumping jacks, jogging in place a bit, doing a bit of that ridiculous knee rising running in place help warm up the legs for squats, then i go in to a chill level I know well.
If you are just starting out something like this [\url] worked for me, to get the ideas of what to move and how, ect. If I feel pain or discomfort in one of the motions, I take note of it...I probably don't want to use that range of movement for intense gaming, so I take it easy.

I just want to stress this as it is super important. Make sure all your dodging is careful and deliberate. If you let your instincts take over and avoid stuff in a panic you are almost certainly gonna pull something. It's always better to simply take the hit than tweak your neck and suffer for several days.
