My personal style is to almost always be at least slightly squatting and try not to jerk. If you get to a section where you don't know where to move yet, it is okay to take an L in the game instead of quick reacting and pulling or straining something. It is a hard thing to learn.
Also, there is a growing body of evidence that static stretching prior to working out actually increases risk of injury, especially if you are new to it and have never really stretched before (higher risk of over-stretching).
The stuff I do now is Light Jumping jacks, jogging in place a bit, doing a bit of that ridiculous knee rising running in place help warm up the legs for squats, then i go in to a chill level I know well.
If you are just starting out something like this [\url] worked for me, to get the ideas of what to move and how, ect. If I feel pain or discomfort in one of the motions, I take note of it...I probably don't want to use that range of movement for intense gaming, so I take it easy.
