Old Enemy Shaders
Just played the last update, and I have one, and only one suggestion - please, add the old enemy shaders back as an option.

Unfortunately, both me, with not-the-best-vision, and my friend, who is suffering from colour blindness, were severely hurt by this seemingly sudden change, and we can no longer distinguish between normal enemies and 2-hit enemies. Can something be done about this?

Please, add it back :(

Howdy, everyone. I wanted to touch base here with a few comments and some insight.

Firstly, we track ALL player feedback (from everywhere) and review it as a team while developing Pistol Whip. These comments about the new shader are no exception; all will be taken into consideration and shared with the development team.

Secondly, while the change was initiated by conversations surrounding implicit bias, we used this change as an opportunity to further clarify our original artistic intent with Pistol Whip regarding enemy abstraction.

Thirdly, this is the first iteration of these additions to colour and complexity, and we are working to make them even better with the next update.

That being said, please share your feedback! Try to keep your comments limited to a single reply where possible, as a single user repeating the same issues across multiple replies actually makes it more difficult to gather the data needed. This doesn’t mean you can’t repeat an issue someone else is having if it also applies to you. Additionally, keeping your feedback limited to the new enemy shaders will also help this thread stay as efficient as possible.

Thanks again for starting this thread, for sharing your feedback with us, and for your continued cooperation as we work together toward a solution.

yeah, an option for us color blind would be nice.

in some levels it's like shooting chameleon-people.

+1, please add the old enemy shaders back in as an option. The new ones are really harder to see.
Thanks!

Hey there! Thanks so much for sharing this feedback, accessibility for as many players as possible is a high priority for us. Additionally, I'm actually a colourblind (Tritanopia) so this issue is one I face in games regularly. Would you be willing to share some more information that might help guide us towards a solution? Particularly the type of colourblindness you have & which scenes (if any) are posing the biggest issue for you?

I agree. I have normal vision but those new enemy shaders are objectivly harder to see. Let us choose which one we want please.

In some levels when there is a "beat" enemies blend to the background + their armor blends to their bodies, so I sometime incorrectly shoot more(or less) than I need to - In hard mode(with fast songs) I dont see which enemy type they are...that's a bummer

Please change those new enemy shaders or let us choose. I know its 2020 and your studio is strong with virtue signaling/tokenism(no offense) but just add #BLM to the start screen or somthing and dont downgrade your great game.

First I thought that my VR HMD screen got screwed up lol. Didn't know the enemy shaders chaged haha.

Ya the new enemy shader is kinda harder to see compared to the old one.

Enemy shader change makes them disappear into the scenery for my ageing but good eyesight. I feel like I'm targeting a colored blob rather then reading the humanoid shape as I scan the playscape in frantic gameplay. Feels like a considerable downgrade.

I'm neither color blind nor have I bad vision but I have a hard time recognizing the enemy type as well, so, yeah, I totally agree.

Came here looking for this exact topic, I love everything about the new update apart from the enemy shader/colour changes

I am not colour blind and I had this exact issue, especially exacerbated by the fact that the enemies now blend in with the same colour palette as the rest of the level. Black and white against a vibrant, pulsing background I think is almost necessary for clear target acquisition, especially when you need to be able to see, at a glance, a vest in order to dole out the right amount of shots.

Hope this can get some sort of option in a future patch! It's the only issue I have with this masterpiece of a game so far

I'm not even colorblind and I can't really see the difference between the different enemy types anymore. They used to be black with white armor, now they're light-grey with white armor, seriously? Why even change something like this?
0Dd1 17 JUN 2020 a las 11:49
Maybe make their suits black/real dark again but their skin (head + hands) color randomly spanning over the whole color span or give it some weird effect shader like mirroring what is behind them with inverted colors. Maybe some distortion effect around the dudes could make them more visible; maybe some black hole effect, like they are sucking in their environment.

Check their twitter. They did it cause they are woke. "...while our approach to enemy targets within Pistol Whip was intentionally abstract and their color was chosen for contrast, we do not want our platform to perpetuate racial profiling or negative stereotypes of the Black community in any way..."

You cant make this up :mr_youseeks: .I am sure 0 black people were offended before. It is ridiculous. Its like if I use this emoji :blackmask: or this one :cgpout: Im hurting somebody. But if I use :Chief_Knife: or :uZippie: Im making a world a better place.
I really dont understand what mind set people have to have to think this is something good for anybody

The problem here is not the sentiment. These changes damage the game play in significant ways.
bigtroy1114 17 JUN 2020 a las 15:02
I'm black and in no way was I ever offended by the prior color scheme, please give us options at least. Thanks.
