Having played and finished 35MM I was very excited to see another game by the same developer. Now after finishing this game I can say although fairly short (taking me 2 hours) the game is an interesting and unique linear experience. A somewhat peaceful yet sometimes eerie environment, with puzzles to solve and items to find in order to progress through the story. For such a low price this game is worth it. If you haven't yet, buy and try their other game as well, 35MM. It takes longer to finish but both games are definitely worth buying and getting the multiple endings.

This game delivers a short story for a $1 game but that's totally worth it I didn't regret buying it because it just GG for me. I seriously love the atmosphere in this game, while this game give you a horror touch with damn good sound which will surely gives you goosebumps and you just start playing it as a horror game but later or you realise again that this game is not a horror but a walking sim with objective base exploring.

It took a while to warm to, but once it clicked it was like flipping a light switch.

My first contact with this stellar dev was with the Limbo-like 7th Sector. Sergey Noskov has a knack for capturing the post-apo/dystopic genres like no other indie dev out there. Hearing that I was going to get my hands on one of his updated 2012 works so soon after 7th Sector was amazing news. I personally hope it was a reasonably quick-turnaround, mind cleansing project for him!

The Light Remake is certainly not a light remake. If you seek out the 2012 version you'll see what I mean. You could say it's light in content, but that's perfectly matched here by its price point and allows it to deliver just the right pace.

But what is it? The Light is a gorgeously rendered, thoughtful light-puzzler. Don't let the Bioshock-gripped pipe in screenshots fool you; you'll be prying open doors and exploring, not doing the one-two punch. The location, built from reference photos (I expect), is remarkably realised. Reclaimed by nature as it is it inspires both eeriness from its abandonment, but also a sense of tranquillity. Dmitry Nikolaev's melodic piano tracks inject just this balance too - undeniably doleful, but with notes that rhyme with the bird chatter outside to evoke the sun dazzled beauty of the place.

As usual with Sergey's games, unfortunately, it doesn't offer the best first impression to an English audience. The translation is bad. Not so bad that the meaning often isn't easily decipherable, but all the same there's rarely a sentence that isn't affected. Despite my trust in Sergey, both this and some performance issues made me initially question the experience.

The Light's puzzling is both a relatively light touch, but demanding in its lack of hand-holding. It predominately involves finding and using items 'walk and click' style, although there's certainly good variation otherwise. The hidden alternative ending is also a clever touch. The large area you're thrown into makes this object hunting a tincture overwhelming, but some direction in subtitles (and online guides) can ensure you're not completely bereft.

Ironically, the moment I really first saw the light was in an area marked by its absence. What unfolded was a sequence it would be hard to convey the effectiveness of. I'm a big fan of minimalist horror. It even caps it off with a puzzle that checks the player really understands the magnitude of that horror. That The Light manages to craft such a sequence by just leaning on its sound design and some clever visuals is spectacular.

Without spoilers, The Light's more Spec Ops: The Line-esque moments are sufficiently striking and affecting too. Although, the use of quotes and a projector film is much more tell than show compared to the aforementioned brilliant sequence and the letters you read along the way. More than ever it's message on the cost of unchecked progress is relevant. I tend to dislike these subjects being portrayed as an intractable human nature issue rather than a powers that be democracy issue - repeating the past for more rolls of the dice only narrowly won before. Nor do I like humanity to be thought as separate from nature. The Light falls a little afoul of these, admittedly. I like to be presented solutions to problems rather than the problem generalised to near irrelevance. That's a persnickety preference of mine. It's still a thoughtful story regardless, brimming as it is with enough mystery and space for interpretation to keep you interested.

The Light Remake is a cheap (if not cheerful), lightweight (if not light in tone) puzzler that evocatively ponders on the human cost of progress. Marked by some truly brilliant sequences that achieve a lot with very little, The Light's visual and sound design impress throughout. Whilst it impresses on us that we shouldn't let us blow ourselves away, for the price it might just blow you away.

Unfortunately, I didn't play the original, so I can't tell you anything about the difference between the original and the remake.

I want to be honest and fair.
I like the game, even if I "struggled" with the movement and the speed at first and I would have liked a little more freedom of movement due to the game design because the environment really invites you to do so, but I must also say that it is a game where I can't just say, "Guys, buy this game, it's awesome".

For me it is, but it might not be for you because this game is definitely not for the impatient and if you don't fully engage with the game, the game could end in a very boring slow walking simulation.
For this reason I would recommend that you take a closer look at the game or what has been written about it so far and maybe also watch one or the other gameplay video before you decide to buy it.

However, if you have the necessary calm and indulge in the very slow but actually realistic pace of The Light Remake, an interactive walk-and-click story awaits you with a breathtaking atmosphere where nature takes back the world.

I enjoyed this game. You start in an abandoned Russian facility that is in a state of crumbling disrepair. You explore the various floors and learn about what happened through a series of notes found along the way. Played from a first person perspective, part of the game is above ground and part is an especially dark maze-like underground bunker. You have the option of a flashlight and/or a lighter to guide you and your choice will have an effect on the ending you experience. The sound track enhances the feeling of being alone and, in the bunker, the sounds increased my sense of stress and panic as I kept circling in the dark.

Keys in inventory are automatically used. Other items are assigned to a key (1-4) to equip and put away. The game saves at checkpoints so it is possible to lose quite a bit of progress if you quit without paying attention. I found the checkpoints to be very nicely selected, as they allow you to restart the tough sections (if you get lost) without penalty.

There is a bit of a political message that does make one think and the ending was not where I thought the story was going. Once you have completed a full play through, it is short work to loop back again. For completionists, only two pass throughs are required (although it took me three).

All in all, The Light is definitely worth playing for those who enjoy exploration, are not claustrophobic, and don't feel a need to be chased!

I enjoyed this for the most part, but the last underground part gave me serious anxiety. The sounds there are downright menacing and I was very relieved to find my way out after going in circles for ages. Managed to solve most things just by exploring everything, but had to resort to a guide for a couple of things near the end. It's a short game, but worth playing.

Alright. The Light Remake is done and dusted. This is a pretty cool walking simulator meets lite puzzle game with the elements of horror. The horror is ever only implied, but there are a couple moments that make you wonder. I could be mistaken, but this seems to be set in Russia during what is implied to be a bombing event, and taking what I know from having played 35MM from the same developer, I'd say it is consistent with the theme of an apocalyptic setting.

You are a nameless protagonist, and bit by bit, you begin to unravel the mystery of what happened to the people who preceded you. There is an implied plot twist wherein you had been there all along, but I'm not going to dive into that. Rather, I thought the important part of this story was the clear message that all war does is kill off people who had nothing to do with anything, and that there is always the risk of it completely devastating the world. And I personally think this is an ideology shared by real human beings worldwide. Who really wants to fight and die for oligarchs who can't get along and want to reinforce what they think their lines on a map should look like? Not me.

Visually, this is a grim and dark setting, and as the name implies, the contrast between light and dark features prominently in the game. In practice, it is the visual experience which serves to drive the game forward. The game area is relatively small and compact, and you will always be on the lookout for visual cues. There are some puzzles, and progressing the story forward generally requires finding something to unlock something which might be required to unlock something else lol. In between, you are really just exploring this little sandbox.

I did get a bit stuck on a couple puzzles where I had to really hunker down and pay attention to my surroundings lol, but even still, I was able to complete the game in just under two hours. There are two endings and best I can tell, that requires two actual playthroughs, so plan accordingly if you're a completionist.

The actual gameplay of walking around, interacting with stuff, and using a couple permanent items you find was fun. There were a couple instances where my guy got stuck trying to move over or around things, but nothing too concerning there. The second fuse also fell too close to the place you get it from, and it required exiting and re-entering the game to be able to pick it up. And...the one lite puzzle that requires a lighter doesn't trigger the way you would expect. If you think you need the lighter when you're playing but aren't having any luck with the action triggering, just try repositioning your body first.

There is a controller map presented in the menu, and you can play with either a gamepad or Steam Deck. I however did just stick with k/m for this one.

All told, it was an enjoyable experience, and I think you could argue that this was actually the presentation of events that led to the next game, 35MM, even though there is some spiritualism in this one and I don't know that there is a specific tie in. I'd give it a go if you have the chance.

A short, mellow walking simulator with incredible music that has you explore a brutalist Soviet building, abandoned and overgrown, destroyed by nuclear war.

The game has puzzles, but they're simple and sparse. If you're just here to move the story forward, you'll be constantly annoyed by how much empty space the game has. The Light only works for people who appreciate the desolate atmosphere, birds singing cheerfully over shattered glass, human shades, and rusty cars.

Thatnkfully, I do appreciate the mood. I appreciate the lack of protagonist narration — too many walking sims destroy the mood by being way too overt about character drama. Here, you're not even a person, really, just one more shade lingering in the long-dead halls.

Just enjoy the beautifully haunting atmosphere.

The horror section felt relatively tasteless compared to the rest of the game, which is subtle, gentle, and beautiful. The final movie's crescendo and the ending sequence were great — short enough to make their point and poignant. Overall, this is one of the better walking sims I've played.

Short, but at the price, it feels worth it tome. On sale? Yeah, grab it if you like walking sims with very good visuals, moody and appropriate music and game audio, and a few relatively easy puzzles.
Take screenshots, or notes, you have no way to review notes you already read to see the clues they may offer. Puzzle solutions are not so in-your-face that they are totally obvious, many ore in notes or on walls.

Ran well enough on my MSI GS75 Stealth laptop (i7 9750/2070 RTX MaxQ/ 16 GB DDR4), though it did make the fans run up a wee bit. I expect the game will run slightly better on my desktop. No major issues, just a few visual artifacts here and there (some clipping and visible seams if I tried to find them), and the claw game was a bit of a PITa trying to pick up the item that drops from it (pushed the item away from the game machine, and had to pause the game and continue from the main menu to get the game to let me pick it up). So a few minor issues, no major bugs or glitches in my first playthrough.

2 achievements are not easy to get, and apparently you should try for them before going for the "regular" ending. If you do not, you will need to delete all game data and replay the whole game, with these 2 achievements in mind the whole time. It looks like you can get the "regular" ending achievement by loading up an earlier checkpoint save and paying through to the end, but not the other way around. I used no guides, so i was not aware of this until after i finished the game with the "regular" ending. I'll playthrough again and go for a speedrun to get the last 2 achievments at some point.

KB/m controls a a wee bit clunky, the game *may* play better with a controller. I have not tested this, just a gut feeling.

Okay, all that ^^^ said- the game is dark, and has a much deeper message than expected. The game world is gorgeous and feels "right" except for the invisible walls around the edge of the map, that i could not find a way to blip through and go off-map :( . The music really sets and enhances the mood, and the game audio really fits- very spooky and creepy when it should have been. Lots to poke into and explore in te smallish game world that you can access (still want to see what is in those other buildings, though!).

A slow walking sim, no major action, no terribly difficult puzzles, but a very impactful message. Maybe avoid it if you are one of those who feels PoLiTiCs DoN't BeLoNg In GaMes, because it is a bit political. Otherwise, get it.
